Position Overview:

The Estimator is accountable for generating and/or overseeing the creation of comprehensive estimates for substantial and intricate projects as dictated by client specifications. This role encompasses delivering thorough conceptual and total bid pricing.

Required Qualifications:
  • Preferred: Associate's degree
  • Background in construction with proficiency in interpreting blueprints and specifications
  • Proficient in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, and ideally On-Screen Takeoff or equivalent digital material takeoff software)
  • Experience with social media platforms (e.g., Salesforce or Facebook)
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to adhere to strict deadlines
  • Professional appearance is essential
  • Must maintain a courteous and respectful demeanor towards all clients and colleagues
  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods (up to 10 hours daily)
Key Responsibilities:
  • Analyze construction documents to gain insight into the required scope of work
  • Communicate with general contractors, architects, suppliers, and team members through various channels
  • Employ computer takeoff software to perform onscreen takeoffs of the necessary scope of work
  • Input takeoff data into the computer system
  • Source materials and suppliers for custom or non-stock items
  • Gather vendor pricing for outsourced materials and labor
  • Solicit bids from subcontractors
  • Utilize job folders to compile supporting documentation (vendor pricing, correspondence)
  • Conduct cost analysis by recalculating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead expenses
  • When standard estimates are unavailable, create an estimate
  • Notify immediate supervisor of any discrepancies or omissions in quoted items or databases
  • Collaborate with Senior Estimators/Peers/Sales to review takeoffs, plans, scope of work, and final estimates
  • Assist in preparing the final estimate alongside Senior Estimators/Peers/Sales
  • Complete overall project estimates using the in-house ERP system
  • Engage with the project team to transfer knowledge once projects are awarded
  • Participate in networking events and occasional travel as requested

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Mental Requirements:
  • Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and colleagues
  • Capacity to work under pressure, manage interruptions, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize and organize personal workload
  • Skill in processing verbal information and entering it into the computer system
  • Ability to follow complex instructions and master essential skills
  • Logical thinking in adhering to procedures and instructions
Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in data entry and retrieval from computer systems
  • Ability to operate modern office equipment
  • Capability to manage phone systems
  • Ability to drive a vehicle for minimal travel


Sensory Requirements:
  • Ability to communicate in a calm and friendly manner
  • Ability to converse effectively on the phone


Work Environment:
  • This position operates within a professional office setting, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copiers
  • While performing job duties, employees may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations
