Position Overview:

The Estimator is accountable for developing and/or overseeing the creation of comprehensive estimates for large-scale and intricate projects in accordance with client specifications. This role entails delivering thorough conceptual and total bid pricing.

Required Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Associate's degree
  • Background in construction with proficiency in interpreting blueprints and specifications
  • Proficient in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, and ideally On-Screen Takeoff or similar digital takeoff software)
  • Experience with social media platforms (e.g., Salesforce or Facebook)
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to adhere to strict deadlines
  • Professional appearance is essential
  • Must maintain a courteous and positive attitude towards both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods (up to 10 hours daily)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze construction documents to gain a clear understanding of the project scope
  • Communicate with general contractors, architects, suppliers, and team members via phone, email, or in-person as necessary
  • Employ computer takeoff software to execute onscreen takeoffs of the required project scope
  • Input takeoff data into the computer system
  • Source materials and suppliers for custom or non-stock items
  • Gather vendor pricing for outsourced materials and labor
  • Request bids from subcontractors
  • Utilize job folders to compile supporting documentation (vendor pricing, correspondence)
  • Conduct cost analysis by recalculating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead expenses
  • In the absence of predetermined standards, generate estimates
  • Notify the immediate supervisor of any discrepancies or omissions in quoted items or the database
  • Collaborate with Senior Estimators/Peers/Sales to review takeoffs, plans, scope of work, and final estimates
  • Assist in preparing the final estimate with Senior Estimators/Peers/Sales
  • Complete overall project estimates using the in-house ERP system
  • Participate in project team meetings to transfer knowledge once projects are awarded
  • Engage in networking events and light travel as requested by the supervisor

Essential Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain seated for prolonged periods

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

  • Ability to work under pressure, with interruptions and deadlines
  • Ability to prioritize and organize personal workload
  • Ability to process verbal information and input it into the computer system
  • Ability to follow complex instructions
  • Ability to master basic skills and think logically

Technical Skills:

  • Ability to enter and retrieve data from a computer
  • Ability to operate modern office equipment
  • Ability to use a phone system
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle for minimal travel

Sensory Requirements:

  • Ability to communicate in a calm and friendly manner
  • Ability to converse on the phone

Working Environment:

  • This position operates in a professional office setting, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and copiers
  • While performing the duties of this job, the team member may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations
