Role Summary
The Senior Production Engineer is responsible for managing the execution of distillation and specialty batch projects, serving as a technical advisor for operational staff. This role utilizes engineering expertise to enhance plant performance, spearheads initiatives for yield enhancement and cost reduction, and contributes to the development and review of operational procedures, training programs, and site qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
As a Senior Production Engineer, your duties will include:
- Overseeing the execution of distillation and specialty batch projects as assigned.
• Ensuring asset reliability and availability, managing unit expenses, and achieving operational objectives related to chemical processes, product quality, and project improvements. Act as a liaison for maintenance and engineering activities related to assigned projects.
- Gaining a comprehensive understanding of equipment operations and implementing optimization strategies.
- Collaborating with the Operations Manager to provide data-driven support for specific product initiatives.
- Working alongside Technical Staff and plant teams to enhance operational efficiency and meet production targets.
- Coordinating with Quality Assurance to guarantee compliance with product specifications.
- Assisting the Engineering Department in formulating cost-effective solutions to optimize production and reduce working capital.
- Creating and refining operational procedures for current and future production items.
- Enhancing and preparing operational guidelines.
- Diagnosing and resolving operational discrepancies.
• Ensuring adherence to all relevant internal and external regulatory standards (HSE, Process Safety, Management of Change, Mechanical Integrity, Compliance Reporting, Action Item Closure, etc.).
- Developing and maintaining production schedules tailored to meet demand.
- Monitoring campaign efficiency through collaboration with plant personnel, technical advisors, and data analysis.
- Engaging with operators in the field to identify opportunities for process and safety enhancements.
- Communicating technical issues and information across all organizational levels as necessary.
- Assisting in optimizing processes to minimize waste disposal costs effectively.
- Leading pre-campaign discussions to address all project execution aspects.
- Providing general engineering support to the plant, aiding in scope development and cost estimation.
- Facilitating investigations to determine root causes of incidents and ensuring proper documentation and corrective actions are implemented.
- Preparing detailed reports summarizing plant activities, including mass balances, process data analysis, and improvement proposals.
- Fostering a culture of open communication throughout the site.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering.
- At least 5 years of experience in a production engineering role, with a preference for candidates with 8+ years.
- Experience in batch or semi-continuous production environments, particularly in contract manufacturing settings.
- Willingness to participate in a 24/7 call-out policy as required.
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively at all organizational levels.
- Ability to obtain a TWIC Card.
- Experience with Delta V systems is advantageous.
- Ability to move about on foot for extended periods, up to 12 hours daily.
- Capability to work seated for prolonged durations.
- Climbing ladders and stairs as needed.
- Maintaining balance on various surfaces.
- Performing bending and lifting tasks as required.
- Exerting force to move objects as necessary.
- Working in varying environmental conditions, including exposure to heat and vibration.
- Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
