Position Overview:
The Civil Cost Estimator plays a crucial role in formulating precise cost assessments for civil engineering projects, facilitating the bidding process, and establishing the pricing of materials and services. This position encompasses planning, budgeting, supervising, and documenting all facets of the estimating and bidding procedures. The Civil Cost Estimator collaborates closely with senior management to ensure compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and financial plans.
Key Responsibilities:
- Calculate comprehensive costs for civil projects, covering raw materials, labor, equipment, tools, and transportation.
- Gather, categorize, and evaluate historical data to enhance the accuracy of cost estimations.
- Interpret blueprints or architectural designs to ascertain required resources while adhering to budget limitations.
- Assist in identifying essential resources for projects based on financial estimates and budgetary constraints.
- Develop bid sheets using Excel, solicit proposals from subcontractors, and manage advertisements as necessary.
- Conduct take-offs and participate in pre-bid site visits.
- Identify and evaluate qualified subcontractors and suppliers.
- Review quotes to ensure completeness in relation to plans and specifications.
- Support the timely completion of all client-required prequalification packages.
- Examine subcontractor proposals prior to contract issuance to confirm comprehensive work scopes.
- Assist field teams with estimating Change Orders, Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and clarifications of Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Contribute to the preparation of budgets and buy-outs.
Essential Skills:
- Over 10 years of experience in the civil engineering sector (preferred).
- In-depth knowledge of civil engineering methodologies.
- Proficiency in performing basic to advanced mathematical calculations necessary for estimating.
- Capability to read and interpret blueprints and/or engineering design documents.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to the Estimating Model.
- Experience with Excel and Word applications.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Ability to pass a hair follicle drug test.
- Some positions may require a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
- Physical ability to climb multiple flights of stairs without assistance.
- Primarily office-based with controlled environmental conditions.
- Occasional site visits may be required, which could take place in various indoor or outdoor settings.
- Ability to climb multiple flights of stairs independently.
- Physical fitness and stamina to conduct job walks on client sites, including prolonged periods of walking or standing.
- Good mobility and dexterity to navigate diverse job sites, including potentially uneven or challenging terrain.
- Adequate vision to read and interpret blueprints or engineering design documents.
- Capability to lift and carry moderately heavy objects or equipment as needed for job tasks.
- Ability to work in varying environmental conditions, both indoors and outdoors, as required for site visits or job walks.
- May involve bending, stooping, or kneeling as necessary.
