About Project FIND: Project FIND is dedicated to offering essential services and support to low- and moderate-income seniors, including those experiencing homelessness. We operate three supportive housing facilities accommodating approximately 600 individuals and four senior centers with over 3,000 members. Our diverse community includes individuals from various backgrounds, ranging from active seniors to those who are frail or homebound. Project FIND serves as a vital resource, providing housing, meals, and programs that promote healthy living and community engagement.

Position Summary: The Grants Accountant plays a crucial role in ensuring the organization achieves its financial objectives related to accounting and audits. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this position collaborates with the controller to oversee the agency's grant management and budgetary functions. Responsibilities include the timely submission of funder vouchers and providing technical support to administrative personnel, including program directors and department heads, to facilitate effective budget management.

Key Responsibilities:

Grants and Contracts Management
  • Manage the financial aspects of grants, ensuring adherence to regulations and fostering collaboration with program staff.
  • Prepare comprehensive financial reports for timely submission to grantors and actively engage in budget development while conducting thorough financial analyses to address discrepancies.
  • Maintain precise documentation, support audit processes, and stay updated on accounting standards and grant regulations.
  • Oversee the financial management of grants from inception to completion, ensuring compliance with guidelines.
  • Assist in the preparation of grant proposal budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop grant budgets and monitor expenditures throughout the grant lifecycle.
  • Conduct regular financial analyses to identify variances and address potential budgetary issues.
  • Prepare and submit accurate financial reports or vouchers to grantors, detailing fund utilization and performance against budget.
  • Organize grant documentation, including financial reports, invoices, and correspondence with grantors.
  • Coordinate with auditors and grantors during grant-related audits.
  • Monitor compliance with audit and grant requirements.
  • Stay informed about changes in accounting standards and grant regulations.
  • Assist with administrative functions and special projects as needed.
  • Support the fiscal team in developing annual reports and fiscal year budgets.
  • Assist the controller with contract registration, budget submissions, modifications, and close-outs to ensure timely processing and reimbursements.
Accounts Payable Oversight
  • Oversee the staff salary allocation process and assist programs with employee allocation changes.
  • Analyze monthly revenue and expense reports for accuracy and address any variances with the controller's assistance.
  • Provide support in various functions within the Finance Department, particularly in payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliation.
  • Maintain organized records of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Assist with monthly closeouts and perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting (preferred) and a minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in grant accounting, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Uniform Guidance, and grant compliance.
  • Experience with federal, state, and local government grants.
  • Proficient in nonprofit accounting principles and grant management.
  • Familiarity with accounting software and payment systems (e.g., Avid Pay, QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, Fund-EZ) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of explaining financial concepts to non-financial staff.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work autonomously.

Project FIND participates in E-Verify, confirming employment authorization through an electronic database maintained by the Social Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security.
