The organization operates three supportive housing facilities accommodating approximately 600 individuals and four senior centers with over 3,000 active members. Our diverse membership includes individuals ranging from healthy and active seniors to those who are frail, homebound, or homeless. Project FIND plays a vital role in delivering housing, meals, and programs that assist seniors in navigating the complexities of aging while fostering community engagement and healthy lifestyles.
Position Summary: The Grants Accountant is responsible for ensuring the organization achieves its financial objectives concerning accounting and audits. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Grants Accountant collaborates with the controller to oversee the agency's grant management and budgetary functions. This includes the timely submission of funder vouchers and providing technical assistance to administrative personnel, including program directors and department heads, to facilitate effective budget management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Grants and Contracts Management:
- Oversee the financial management of grants, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and fostering collaboration with program staff.
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports for timely submission to grantors and actively engage in budget development.
- Maintain accurate documentation and facilitate audit processes while staying updated on accounting standards and grant regulations.
- Manage the financial lifecycle of grants from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to grant guidelines.
- Assist in the preparation of grant proposal budgets, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Work closely with the Director of Finance and Program Leadership to develop grant budgets and monitor expenditures.
- Conduct regular financial analyses to identify variances and address potential budgetary issues.
- Submit accurate financial reports or vouchers to grantors, detailing fund utilization and performance metrics.
- Organize grant documentation, including financial reports and correspondence with grantors.
- Coordinate with auditors and grantors during audit processes.
- Stay informed about changes in accounting standards and grant regulations to ensure compliance.
- Assist with other administrative functions and special projects as needed.
- Accounts Payable Oversight:
- Manage staff salary allocation processes and assist programs with employee allocation adjustments.
- Analyze monthly revenue and expense reports for accuracy and address any discrepancies.
- Support the Finance Department in various functions, including payroll and bank reconciliation.
- Maintain organized records of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
- Assist with monthly closeouts and perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting (preferred) and 3-5 years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in grant accounting within a nonprofit setting.
- Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and grant compliance regulations.
- Experience with federal, state, and local government grants.
- Proficiency in accounting software and systems (e.g., Avid Pay, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills, capable of conveying financial concepts to non-financial staff.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong organizational skills.
- Advanced spreadsheet skills.
Project FIND participates in E-Verify, confirming employment authorization through an electronic database maintained by the Social Security Administration and Department of Homeland Security.
