Position Overview:

The COMET contract encompasses comprehensive management and execution of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at a leading space center. These responsibilities support various programs, including those related to human spaceflight and exploration.

As part of the Electrical Systems Engineering team, you will collaborate directly with engineers focused on the design and maintenance of new and existing subsystems essential for space missions. These systems encompass a range of AC and DC power systems required for vehicle processing and launch, as well as critical interfaces and support systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply engineering expertise to execute electrical engineering projects that fulfill stakeholder expectations and meet system functional requirements.
  • Assist in the design of electrical Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and Ground Support Systems (GSS), including AC/DC power distribution and lightning protection systems.
  • Collaborate with design teams to modify existing GSE/GSS electrical systems as necessary.
  • Develop conceptual design packages, conduct feasibility studies, and prepare technical assessments and cost estimates for new design initiatives and modifications.
  • Conduct arc flash risk assessments and generate reports to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform electrical circuit calculations, including load assessments and equipment sizing.
  • Design and execute verification plans and testing methods to validate system performance against requirements.
  • Effectively interface with customer representatives and ensure timely completion of tasks within budget.
  • Enhance professional knowledge through workshops, publications, and participation in professional organizations.
  • Contribute to team objectives by achieving related results as required.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in engineering or a related technical field from an accredited institution.

We consider candidates at various experience levels based on qualifications and business needs.

  • Experience with GSE and GSS for spaceflight vehicle launches is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with design development processes and requirements is advantageous.
  • Experience in power systems design and control instrumentation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of short circuit analyses, load flow studies, and protective relay settings is beneficial.
  • Experience with PLC control systems and automated testing equipment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with hazardous environment design standards is desirable.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70 (NEC) and NFPA 70E is a plus.
  • Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD or Microstation is advantageous.
  • Experience with work authorization tools and product lifecycle management software is beneficial.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics is essential.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required.
  • Experience in collaborative team environments is necessary.
  • Must be able to present information effectively to management and clients.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is essential.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance if required.

Physical and Work Environment:

Position may require climbing stairs and accessing equipment for troubleshooting. Personal protective equipment will be necessary.

Work may involve both indoor and outdoor settings, with travel to various locations on site.

Attendance may require a hybrid schedule, with a minimum on-site presence. Overtime and shift work may be necessary.

Essential Functions:

Effective communication of ideas in both written and verbal formats is required. Travel may be necessary to fulfill position requirements.

Adherence to grooming and dress standards is expected, along with compliance with workplace safety regulations.
