Position Overview:

The Electrical Controls Design Engineer will be responsible for the development of electrical control systems for both standard and custom packaging machinery. This role requires expertise in electrical design for packaging equipment, including proficiency in AutoCAD 2D, PLCs, HMIs, and Rockwell Automation products.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement electrical controls for packaging machinery, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Provide programming, integration, and communication solutions for various control systems, including PCs, PLCs, HMIs, and servo drives.
  • Collaborate with the Packaging, Machinery, and Automation (PM&A) Team to enhance equipment design through innovative technologies and best practices.
  • Conduct accurate calculations related to electrical and pneumatic systems to support automation design.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive electrical bills of materials, ensuring clarity and accuracy for production and purchasing.
  • Research and select appropriate electrical components to meet design specifications.
  • Utilize AutoCAD 2D to produce detailed electrical layout drawings, control cabinet designs, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Assist in the cost reduction and quality enhancement of electrical designs.
  • Understand and address customer electrical specifications and requirements for packaging operations.
  • Support the technical documentation process and provide programming for equipment upgrades and custom machinery.
  • Participate in the commissioning and start-up of machinery.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution or a comparable combination of education and experience. A minimum of three years of experience in electrical controls and programming is required, with a preference for candidates experienced in the electrical design of automated industrial machinery using AutoCAD.


Technical Skills:

Experience with high voltage three-phase and single-phase schematics, control system design using Allen-Bradley components, and the ability to create I/O layout diagrams, electrical panel layouts, and machine layout diagrams is essential. Familiarity with structured programming and configuring industrial automation systems using Rockwell Automation products is preferred. Knowledge of NEC and NFPA 79 standards is also beneficial.
