Position Overview:

The COMET contract encompasses comprehensive management and execution of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at a leading space center. These responsibilities support various significant programs, including those related to space exploration.

As part of the Electrical Systems Engineering team, you will collaborate with engineers focused on the design and maintenance of both new and existing subsystems essential for upcoming missions. These systems encompass a wide range of AC and DC power systems, ground-to-flight interfaces, and transport mechanisms vital for launch operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply engineering expertise to execute electrical engineering projects that fulfill stakeholder expectations and system requirements.
  • Assist in the design of electrical Ground Support Equipment (GSE) and Ground Support Systems (GSS), including AC/DC power distribution and lightning protection systems.
  • Collaborate with design teams to modify existing electrical systems.
  • Develop conceptual design packages, conduct feasibility studies, and perform technical assessments in support of new design initiatives.
  • Conduct arc flash risk assessments and generate reports to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Perform electrical circuit calculations, including load assessments and equipment sizing.
  • Create and implement design verification plans to validate system performance and achieve certification.
  • Interface effectively with clients and ensure timely completion of tasks within budget.
  • Enhance professional knowledge through workshops, publications, and networking.
  • Contribute to team success by achieving related results as needed.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in engineering or a technical equivalent from an accredited institution.

  • Experience with GSE and GSS for spaceflight vehicle launches is preferred.
  • Familiarity with design development processes and requirements is advantageous.
  • Experience in power systems design and control systems is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of circuit analyses and protective relay settings is a plus.
  • Experience with PLC control systems and automated testing equipment is desirable.
  • Understanding of hazardous environment design principles is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety standards is preferred.
  • Proficiency in CAD software is beneficial.
  • Experience with work authorization tools is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience in collaborative team environments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and related software.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain necessary security clearances.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements:

Position may require climbing stairs and wearing personal protective equipment. The role involves sitting, standing, and accessing various structures.

Attendance Expectations:

Hybrid work schedule with a minimum on-site presence required. Occasional overtime may be necessary.

Other Essential Functions:

Effective communication of ideas in both written and verbal formats is essential. Travel may be required to fulfill position responsibilities.
