Position Overview

EECU is seeking an Assistant Vice President of Mortgage Sales to oversee all facets of mortgage originations, ensuring timely execution and setting realistic expectations with members, operations, and vendors. This role is crucial for achieving sales targets, enhancing financial performance within the department, and maintaining accountability for the mortgage loan originator (MLO) team’s pipeline and performance metrics.


The successful candidate will lead, train, and inspire the Mortgage Loan Originators in the production of various mortgage products, including home equity and home improvement loans. The goal is to drive revenue growth and expand the portfolio in alignment with leadership objectives while streamlining the sales process and optimizing staffing.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure MLOs adhere to loan guidelines and maintain proper documentation, guaranteeing the quality of loan files and compliance with all regulations.
  • Originate loans and support MLOs with disclosures, inquiries, rates, and loan program details, covering all loan types including Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Ginnie Mae products.
  • Foster and strengthen relationships with both new and existing realtors to align with the external MLO strategy.
  • Develop and implement a sustainable growth strategy for the mortgage sales division, identifying market opportunities and enhancing market penetration.
  • Oversee compliance with Nationwide Multistate Licensing System & Registry (NMLS) training requirements for all team members.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive standard operating procedures for all aspects of the mortgage sales process.
  • Manage all expenses related to the mortgage sales division, including budgeting, forecasting, expense analysis, and cost control to ensure financial efficiency.
  • Facilitate effective communication with members, vendors, and operations to maintain a high-performing team.
  • Conduct regular MLO meetings to provide essential information, training, and coaching.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years in the real estate lending sector, with at least 8 years of experience in originating FNMA, FHLMC, and GNMA mortgage loans.
  • Possession of a current NMLS number is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, Symitar, Encompass – LOS system, and Blend.
  • Strong understanding of debt ratios, loan-to-value ratios, credit reports, title work, appraisals, and related financial documentation.
  • Exceptional decision-making abilities, interpersonal skills, and organizational capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in team development within a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State lending regulations is essential.
  • Familiarity with credit union products and services is preferred.
  • A college degree is required.
