Position Overview:

As a Substation Engineer at PSE, you will play a crucial role in providing expert consulting services. Your responsibilities will include electrical substation design, project management, system design support, and operational guidance. You will oversee the planning and execution of electrical designs, ensuring high-quality deliverables that meet client expectations and project budgets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Uphold PSE's core values related to People, Problem-Solving, and Progress.
  • Provide comprehensive electrical design and consulting services for utility clients, focusing on substation design and protection/control systems.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and PSE guidelines throughout the design process, including engineering design, drawings, procurement, and construction management.
  • Collaborate with construction teams to ensure accurate implementation of designs.
  • Conduct site visits for inspections and oversee contractor compliance with PSE designs and standards.
  • Perform quality control and technical reviews to ensure adherence to engineering principles and client specifications.
  • Engage with various PSE departments to effectively address the needs of regional electric utility clients.
  • Pursue ongoing education and certifications to maintain Professional Engineering licensure.
  • Manage project budgets and expenditures effectively.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to enhance operational efficiencies.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in the utility sector, specifically in electrical substation engineering and design.
  • Professional Engineer license or eligibility for licensure in relevant states.
  • Experience in leading design projects is preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Self-motivated with expertise in power system planning, protection, design, and operations.
  • Proficient in software tools such as AutoCAD, MS Excel, and MS Word.
  • Familiarity with NEC, IEEE, and ANSI standards and electrical codes is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on customer service and teamwork.
  • Willingness to travel for client meetings, site assessments, and inspections as necessary.
