SUMMARY

The Assistant Vice President for Community Support and Innovations (CSI) of Beyond School Bells (BSB) seeks to support community capacity building efforts through providing direct support to school-based afterschool and summer programs in communities across Nebraska. This position supports Nebraska Children's interest in enhancing quality comprehensive learning opportunities for children in K-12 schools, primarily through BSB-supported initiatives but also including other NCFF supported education work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Ass. VP for CSI will work as part of a community support and policy team, under the direction of the BSB Associate VP, for carrying out all work related to initiative as detailed below. Other duties may be assigned. All duties are carried out with minimal supervision.

  • Support BSB's efforts to enhance the overall quality of ELO programs in Nebraska.
  • Working as part of a community and grant support team, provide day to day contact and direct support to assigned greater NE communities participating BSB's growing statewide network of Expand Learning Opportunities (ELO) programs.
  • Provide technical assistance, training, and coaching support to ELO program leads and staffs through multiple channels including email, virtual, and in-person meetings, with a priority on rural 21st CCLC communities with new programs or new leaders. This will occasionally require travel to rural communities.
  • Understand school and community funding streams that can support ELO programs and how they can be integrated into AS and Summer programs in rural communities, sharing this information with ELO partners.
  • Support the continued development and field testing of programming and staffing innovations that make ELO programs more exciting, engaging and inspiring for youth participants.
  • Support programming strands developing and integrating innovations in Science, Technology Engineering and Math (STEM), Arts, Entrepreneurship, college and career readiness and outdoor education program areas.
  • Support the development of other school-community partnership initiatives, including new grant making programs enhancing ELO programs statewide and the development of Full Service Community School initiatives.
  • Develop professional development materials and lead in-person and virtual learning opportunities for a variety of audiences including informal and formal educators, community partners, and others focused on building collaborative school-community partnerships to improve student learning
  • Partner with BSB and NCFF staff on grant / proposal writing as appropriate to the objectives and funding needs of BSB.
  • Build collaborative relationships with key stakeholders, including but not limited to current community coalitions funded by NCFF as well as other school-based groups to strengthen school-community engagement initiatives (e.g., NDE, ESUs, NASB and other state organizations)
  • Manage grant contracts and all relationships with school and community partners with attention to detail, deadlines, and compliance with grant agreements.
  • Support statewide ELO Professional Development efforts, including regional PD coalition planning and implementation.
  • Support the development of on-line tools to support ELO programs statewide.
  • Utilize in-person meetings and event and web-based platforms to communicate information that strengthens out-of-school time programs (e.g., GetConnected Afterschool Conference, Partner Spotlight organizations)
  • Effective communication is key to the success of this initiative. Ensuring seamless and consistent communications between NCFF / BSB and school districts is a priority.
  • Contribute to a community support team to streamline compliance and reporting / evaluation responsibilities related to BSB grants and grant requirements.
  • Support the BSB Vice President and Associate Vice President in all activities to enhance ELO programs and resources across Nebraska.
  • Provide staff support for activities and events needed to further BSB's mission.

Required Skills/Abilities:

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, human services or related field.
  • Managerial or supervisory experience in Expanded Learning Opportunity (ELO) programs or K-12 schools, museums, libraries, foundations, and others involved in the intersection of time and learning
  • a strong preference for applicants who have previously managed 21st Century CLC programs in rural communities.
  • An understanding and appreciation of the value of Innovation,
  • Youth Engagement and STEM programming in out of school time programs is required.
  • Knowledge and education regarding developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Computer skills are required.
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite is preferred.
  • Experience with and comfortable using/learning web based digital media tools.
  • Preference is given to candidates with experience working in underserved greater Nebraska communities.
