Job Overview

The mission of Hope the Mission (HOTV) is to combat poverty, hunger, and homelessness.

HOTV's Bridge Housing offers a secure, accessible, and supportive 24-hour accommodation for individuals facing homelessness. Residents receive essential services such as shelter, meals, and case management. Under the guidance of the Bridge Housing Program Manager, the Resident Support Coordinator plays a vital role in fulfilling the mission of the Hope of Valley Rescue Mission by effectively supervising and assisting the residents of the Bridge Housing Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of residents and visitors through on-site supervision.
  • Monitor compliance with program regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Distribute essential supplies, including bedding, clothing, and hygiene products as required.
  • Assist in the sanitation of resident belongings and facilitate new bed assignments during intake.
  • Observe and report any suspicious or unusual activities to the relevant authorities; investigate alarms or disturbances and address unauthorized individuals on the premises.
  • Collaborate with on-site security personnel.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Contact emergency services, including law enforcement and medical personnel, in urgent situations.
  • Maintain accurate written reports and logs of daily activities.
  • Handle phone calls and relay messages for clients and staff.
  • Resolve resident concerns using de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques.
  • Monitor facility conditions and report maintenance issues as necessary.
  • Assist in the preparation and serving of daily meals.
  • Maintain cleanliness throughout the facility, including sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.
  • Restock supplies in communal areas, including restrooms and dining spaces.
  • Support the management of the resident laundry schedule.
  • Encourage residents to adhere to proper hygiene practices.
  • Work with residents to enhance their independent living skills.
  • Clean restrooms, dormitory spaces, offices, and common areas.
Additional Duties
  • Oversee the medication cabinet and review medication records.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and case conferences.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate records in both physical and digital formats.
  • Foster positive relationships with colleagues, including management and other staff members.
  • Facilitate and supervise regular resident meetings.
  • Create and sustain a safe shelter environment.
  • Adhere to all HOTV and LAHSA rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Commitment to the mission of Hope of the Valley Rescue Mission.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with homeless individuals or similar populations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a grasp of basic grammar and spelling.
  • Ability to work independently with initiative and responsibility.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Professional interaction skills.
  • Knowledge of Housing First, Harm Reduction, and Trauma-Informed principles.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, with sensitivity to cultural, religious, sexual orientation, racial, age, and health differences.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be TB-cleared prior to employment.
  • A criminal background check is required.
  • Local travel may be necessary.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
Working Conditions
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously.
  • Ability to grasp and move objects such as files and drawers.
  • Ability to work closely with service and emotional support animals.
  • Ability to operate a computer, fax machine, and telephone.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Some evening and weekend hours may be required.

The noise level is typically moderate, but stress levels may increase during high-pressure situations.
