Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Resident Advocate to join our team at L.A. Family Housing Corp. The successful candidate will provide crisis intervention services, support, and advocacy to residents in our Permanent Supportive Housing sites.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a welcoming presence onsite for tenants, answering questions and providing information during select evening and weekend hours.
  • Coordinate with onsite service staff to address tenants' needs, including after-hours monitoring, follow-up, and assistance.
  • Support after-hours programming, tours, and participant events.
  • Identify and respond to tenants displaying severe mental health symptoms, contacting the Psychiatric Medical Response Team (PMRT) as needed.
  • Develop a deep understanding of each tenant's unique needs to provide tailored support and establish meaningful relationships.
  • Employ a harm reduction and trauma-informed care approach to assist tenants.
  • Mediate conflicts and de-escalate anxious or aggressive tenants.
  • Monitor cameras and respond to participant health and safety concerns in a timely manner.
  • In emergency situations, contact emergency services and notify the appropriate individuals and/or after-hours maintenance.
  • Maintain daily reports, documenting incidents in the HMIS/Champ database system, and reporting to the Property Management and Service team.
  • Familiarize yourself with the building lease term agreement and house rules.
  • Attend regular monthly team meetings/trainings and PSH department meetings as scheduled.
  • Provide support with after-hours programming, tours, and participant events.
  • Be flexible with your schedule and site location, with regular travel required (50% of the time) and use of a personal vehicle.
  • Work evenings, weekends, and holidays at multiple sites, with additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor.
Requirements
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English is an advantage.
  • Ability to provide crisis intervention services.
  • Strong advocacy and case management skills.
  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to follow through on tasks.
  • Effective problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate empathy and maintain a non-judgmental attitude when interacting with individuals who have recently experienced homelessness.
  • Display a high level of tolerance and understanding for individuals with mental health and physical health needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in dealing with substance abuse, mental health, and crisis intervention.
