Position Overview

The Procurement Specialist plays a crucial role in the Purchasing Department, ensuring that the most cost-effective and highest quality materials are sourced and delivered promptly to facilitate the manufacturing of products across all channels of 1-800-FLOWERS. This role involves determining the necessary quantities and preferred delivery schedules through the issuance of purchase orders for specific product categories. Following the placement of a purchase order, the Procurement Specialist collaborates closely with the Coordinator and communicates with suppliers to address any issues that may hinder the fulfillment of the original order.

Utilizing the MRP system, the Procurement Specialist assesses net available inventory and requirements to make informed ordering decisions. This position is essential for maintaining operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilize SAP MRP to identify material requisitions, minimum order quantities, volume discounts, and optimal timing for required materials.
  • Develop effective purchasing and delivery strategies based on business constraints and the financial implications of products.
  • Issue and monitor all purchase orders with suppliers to ensure timely delivery.
  • Address supply exceptions and resolve vendor and payment-related issues.
  • Collaborate with merchants, quality assurance, merchandise planners, and production planners to communicate any potential impacts on supply chain operations.
  • Oversee inventory supply and manage stocking levels effectively.
  • Assist colleagues in the Purchasing Team during their absence.
  • Balance inventory supply across various facilities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a 4-year Bachelor's degree in business or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of demonstrated experience in business and management principles related to strategic planning, resource allocation, production methods, and coordination of personnel and resources.
  • A minimum of 2 years of knowledge and application of logistics principles for transporting goods via various modes, including air, rail, sea, or road, with an understanding of associated costs and benefits.
  • Preferred experience in working with raw materials, production processes, quality control, and cost management to enhance the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Ability to devise business solutions that align with the company's interests while fostering cooperative vendor relationships.
  • Proficient in logical reasoning to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of different solutions, conclusions, or approaches to challenges.
  • Experience in assessing the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to select the most suitable option.
  • Purchasing and negotiation experience is advantageous.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products, particularly Excel.
