Job Title: Technology Support Specialist

Summary: This role involves assisting educators in the technology lab by executing clerical and support tasks, including collaborating with student groups on technology-related projects and assessments. The specialist will identify and resolve minor technical issues within the network and perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on devices.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee student activities in the technology lab.
  • Provide assistance to students in both group and individual settings, fostering their understanding of technology.
  • Support educators with various instructional activities.
  • Monitor and assess student progress in technology-related tasks.
  • Install software and conduct basic maintenance using appropriate system tools.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot minor network issues affecting the lab's computers.
  • Perform basic repairs and troubleshooting on devices as needed.
  • Research and procure requested software with necessary approvals.
  • Collaborate closely with technical support teams regarding any technical challenges.
  • Instruct staff and students on effective software usage.
  • Maintain communication with relevant departments regarding software licensing.
  • Document grades, test scores, and other academic records as required.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and trends.
  • Generate reports efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and operational procedures.
  • Utilize and maintain all departmental resources responsibly.
  • Provide assistance to other roles as necessary.
  • Take on additional responsibilities as needed with minimal supervision.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Train staff on various software applications and hardware.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of equipment and workspace.
  • Organize, inventory, and manage technology equipment.
  • Supervise students in various school settings as required.
  • Support special programs that utilize technology.
  • Assist educators with technology-based assessments.
Supervisory Duties:
  • Guide the work of student and parent volunteers assisting in the technology lab.
  • All staff members are responsible for supervising students and ensuring a safe environment.
Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill essential duties effectively. The following qualifications are necessary:

Education and Experience: An associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical institution; or one to two years of relevant clerical experience and/or training involving public interaction, or a combination of education and experience.

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to engage positively with educators, staff, community members, and students. Focus on conflict resolution while maintaining confidentiality and fostering a collaborative team environment.

Language Proficiency: Proficient in verbal and written English communication. Preference may be given to candidates fluent in both English and Spanish. Ability to effectively present information and respond to inquiries from students, staff, and parents. Capable of reading and interpreting various documents and writing reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform calculations involving discounts, interest, and percentages, and apply basic algebra and geometry concepts to practical situations.

Reasoning Skills: Ability to address practical problems and interpret various instructions in different formats.

Technical Skills: General knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in using various software applications, including databases, email, and word processing tools.

Certificates and Licenses: Required certifications as determined by the district, including compliance with current educational standards.

Physical Requirements: The physical demands of this position require regular communication, mobility, and the ability to lift and move items up to 25 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Vision capabilities include close and distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: The work environment is typically low to moderate noise levels, with potential exposure to various elements. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
