Procurement Specialist

Position Overview
The Procurement Specialist plays a crucial role in the Purchasing Department, ensuring that the highest quality materials are acquired at the most competitive prices and delivered promptly to facilitate the production of goods across all 1-800-FLOWERS business channels. This role involves determining the necessary quantities and desired delivery timelines through the issuance of purchase orders for specific product categories. Once a purchase order is initiated, the Procurement Specialist collaborates closely with the Coordinator and communicates with suppliers to address any challenges that may hinder the fulfillment of the original order.
Key Responsibilities
- Utilize SAP MRP to assess material requisitions, minimum order quantities, volume discounts, and the timing of required materials.
- Formulate optimal purchasing and delivery strategies based on business constraints and the financial implications of the products.
- Issue and confirm the delivery of all purchase orders with suppliers.
- Address any supply discrepancies and devise solutions for supply, vendor, and payment-related issues.
- Collaborate with merchants, quality assurance teams, merchandise planners, and production planners to communicate any potential impacts that may arise.
- Oversee inventory supply and maintain appropriate stocking levels.
- Assist team members in the Purchasing Department during their absence.
- Ensure balanced supply across various 1-800-FLOWERS facilities.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
- A minimum of a 4-year Bachelor's degree in business or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 2 years of proven experience in business and management principles related to strategic planning, resource allocation, production methods, and coordination of personnel and resources.
- 2+ years of knowledge and application of principles and methods for transporting goods via air, rail, sea, or road, including the associated costs and benefits.
- Preferred experience in working with raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for optimizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Ability to develop business solutions that align with the company's best interests while fostering a vendor relationship based on cooperation and mutual benefit.
- Proficient in using logic and reasoning to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of various solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
- Experience in assessing the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to select the most suitable option.
- Familiarity with purchasing and negotiation practices is advantageous.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Products, particularly Excel.
