The role of the Buyer I Commodity Wood Products is crucial in managing the procurement of lumber and structural panels. This position focuses on evaluating pricing strategies and supplier relationships to align with the company’s objectives in quality, delivery, and cost-effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Assess market prices for wood and panel commodities to facilitate the acquisition of products at competitive costs, ensuring optimal pricing for direct shipments and inventory.
  2. Conduct thorough research on primary lumber and panel commodity sources to gather insights on market trends and pricing.
  3. Execute purchases of wood commodities, including special orders, while considering cost implications and market timing to enhance sales volume and profit margins.
  4. Provide market intelligence to supply chain and sales teams regarding current pricing, availability, and product logistics.
  5. Address and resolve claims or complaints related to defective products.
  6. Maintain accurate records of purchases and freight transactions through a systematic filing approach.
  7. Oversee the distribution of products to various locations under internal distribution models.
  8. Manage inventory replenishment strategies, including Just-In-Time (JIT) and consignment approaches.
  9. Update pricing for purchase orders and maintain pricing systems accordingly.
  10. Communicate fluctuations in the market and any related commodity issues.
  11. Collaborate closely with senior buyers and category directors to align procurement strategies.

Qualifications

A successful candidate will possess a Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management or a related discipline, along with two years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiarity with ERP systems, particularly JDA, is advantageous.

Work Environment

This position is primarily office-based, requiring a sedentary work style with occasional physical activity associated with computer use. There may be a need to lift or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and occasional travel may be necessary.
