Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Commodity Wood Products Buyer to join our team at Builders FirstSource. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating wood commodities pricing and suppliers, purchasing lumber and/or structural panels, and negotiating with sawmills and secondary distribution sources to obtain competitive costs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze wood and panel commodities prices in current cash and futures markets to enable acquisition of products at optimum cost.
  • Survey key lumber and/or panel commodity sources to obtain information about short and long-term market prices.
  • Purchase wood commodities and place special orders with consideration as to cost and market timing.
  • Develop market information and advise supply chain and sales/operations personnel on current pricing, market trends, availability, freight information, order status, and product location.
  • Process claims/complaints regarding defective merchandise.
  • Prepare and maintain appropriate records of purchases and freight.
  • Manage the outflow of product to locations participating in internal distribution models.
  • Manage replenishment of products on program, JIT, or consignment.
  • Update program and/or contract pricing for purchase orders and pricing systems.
  • Communicate market fluctuations and any related commodities problems.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management or related field.
  • Two (2) years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience using JDA or other ERP statistical software packages is helpful.

  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Exhibit proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and an enterprise resource planning (ERP) program.
