Procurement Specialist - Wood Products

Purpose:

The Procurement Specialist evaluates pricing and suppliers for wood commodities, focusing on the acquisition of lumber and structural panels to align with the company's objectives regarding quality, delivery, and cost efficiency. This role involves negotiating with sawmills and secondary distribution channels to secure competitive pricing, including logistics considerations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Analyze market prices for wood and panel commodities to ensure optimal purchasing decisions that enhance profitability and sales volume.
  2. Conduct surveys of primary lumber and panel commodity sources to gather insights on market trends and pricing.
  3. Execute purchases of wood commodities, placing special orders while considering cost and market timing to maximize efficiency.
  4. Develop and disseminate market intelligence to supply chain and sales teams regarding pricing, availability, and product logistics.
  5. Address claims and complaints related to defective products.
  6. Maintain accurate records of purchases and logistics through a systematic filing process.
  7. Oversee product distribution to various locations within the internal distribution framework.
  8. Manage inventory replenishment strategies, including Just-In-Time (JIT) and consignment models.
  9. Update pricing for purchase orders and ensure accuracy in pricing systems.
  10. Communicate fluctuations in market conditions and address any commodity-related issues.
  11. Collaborate with senior buyers and category directors to align purchasing strategies.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not entail supervisory duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management or a related discipline, along with two years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Familiarity with JDA or other ERP statistical software is advantageous.

  • Strong negotiation and organizational abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems.

Work Environment:

This role is primarily office-based, involving sedentary work with occasional physical activity associated with computer use. Some lifting of objects up to 25 pounds may be required, along with potential travel.
