Position Overview

Relocation assistance is available for this role.

Our laboratory in East Syracuse, NY is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to oversee the GCMS team. This role entails managing the daily operations of the department, collaborating with Team Leads to optimize sample processing and ensure that turnaround times are consistently met while upholding data quality that aligns with industry standards. The Laboratory Supervisor is also tasked with cultivating a safe and productive work environment.


Key Responsibilities
  • Directs workflow within the department to meet established turnaround times.
  • Collaborates with Team Leads to effectively manage personnel and equipment resources, ensuring production goals are achieved.
  • Utilizes LIMS for proper sample processing and updates sample statuses as necessary.
  • Employs technical expertise to identify potential issues with processed samples.
  • Implements best practices to enhance operational efficiency and maintain high data quality standards.
  • Exhibits strong leadership through effective planning, delegation, and empowerment of team members, while managing performance on a daily basis.
  • Ensures adequate staffing levels are maintained and that personnel are well-trained for their roles.
  • Partners with the Laboratory Manager in the recruitment and training of skilled laboratory staff.
  • Facilitates the onboarding and training of new analysts to ensure their successful integration into the team.
  • Manages the inventory of laboratory supplies to align with current workload demands.
  • Adheres to safety protocols and ensures team compliance with safety regulations.
  • Proactively addresses safety concerns in the laboratory to minimize risks and promote safe practices.
  • Fosters a culture of safety and ensures a secure working environment.
  • Keeps supervisory and management teams informed of any emerging issues.
  • Provides relevant information to management regarding instrumentation, production, and personnel matters.
  • Performs additional duties as required.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Chemistry discipline with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience with GCMS is required.
  • Familiarity with EPA TO15, TO17, and 325 Methods is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of thermal desorption tubes is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with 6L and 1L canister sampling and analysis is strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in mass spectrometry is required.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory experience is strongly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in English is required.
  • Understanding of environmental testing protocols, regulations, and certifications relevant to the department is required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Solid grasp of processes and workflows is required.
  • Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions and address problems involving multiple variables is required.
  • Capability to read and interpret documents such as SOPs, safety rules, and procedure manuals is required.
  • Proficient in writing routine reports and effectively communicating with groups.
  • Demonstrates integrity and respect towards others and company principles.
  • Excellent communication skills, with active listening and tactful feedback delivery.
  • Strong time management skills, capable of balancing multiple projects with varying deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook) is required.
  • Experience with LIMS is preferred.

The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000, based on experience. This position is not eligible for overtime.

In addition, the compensation package includes:

  • Participation in the Company's benefit programs effective from the first of the month following your hire date.
  • Immediate eligibility for the Company's 401K Retirement Plan.
  • Paid vacation, including:
    • Four (4) floating holidays annually.
    • Seven (7) company-observed holidays.
    • Sick time accrual.
