The Laboratory Supervisor operates under the general guidance of the faculty Laboratory Director while frequently exercising independent judgment in laboratory management and operations.



Key Responsibilities:

Administrative and Supervisory Duties:

  • Manage and authorize laboratory test charges within the hospital billing system, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Monitor and summarize monthly financial reports and test count metrics.
  • Collaborate with the Laboratory Director to review and adjust laboratory test pricing as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain staff schedules and oversee resource allocation.
  • Approve leave requests and monitor staff attendance.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for laboratory personnel.
  • Participate in the recruitment and onboarding of new laboratory staff.
  • Review and endorse laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Implement quality assurance measures and maintain training records for laboratory staff.
  • Report incidents and ensure compliance with institutional safety protocols.
  • Oversee laboratory supply inventory and approve procurement orders.
  • Engage in departmental meetings and contribute to committee activities as needed.

Operational and Technical Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical oversight across all laboratory functions, assigning tasks and monitoring progress.
  • Prepare and accession specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Supervise the entry of patient data into electronic medical records.
  • Conduct viral isolation and identification procedures, including various diagnostic tests.
  • Ensure adherence to quality control and assurance protocols, including instrument checks and external assessments.
  • Address and resolve operational challenges, ensuring laboratory readiness.
  • Engage in strategic planning and emergency preparedness for laboratory operations.
  • Assist in the acquisition of new laboratory equipment and the development of new tests.
  • Advise researchers on testing options and requirements.
  • Participate in proficiency testing for laboratory accreditation.
  • Analyze scientific data and address issues related to diagnostic testing.
  • Collaborate with regulatory authorities on compliance matters.

Teaching and Training Responsibilities:

  • Provide training for laboratory staff on operational procedures.
  • Assist in developing educational content for veterinary students.
  • Consult with internal and external clients regarding specimen handling and result interpretation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in biology, microbiology, medical technology, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in a clinical laboratory environment or equivalent supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in laboratory management or supervisory roles.
  • Advanced degrees or relevant coursework.
  • Knowledge of quality assurance and regulatory compliance in diagnostic testing.
