Position Overview

Relocation assistance is available for this role.

Our laboratory is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to oversee the GCMS team. The Laboratory Supervisor is accountable for the daily operations within their designated department. This role involves collaborating with Team Leads to manage sample processing to ensure timely results while upholding data integrity that meets or surpasses industry benchmarks. The Laboratory Supervisor is also tasked with fostering a safe working culture and environment throughout the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Directs workflow within the department to guarantee timely results
  • Collaborates with Team Leads to optimize staff and equipment resources to enhance sample processing and achieve production goals
  • Utilizes LIMS to ensure proper sample handling and updates sample statuses as necessary
  • Employs technical expertise to identify potential issues with processed samples
  • Assists in implementing best practices in the laboratory to enhance operational efficiency and maintain data quality that meets or exceeds industry standards
  • Exhibits strong leadership through effective planning, delegation, and empowerment of team members, leading by example. Manages personnel and performance on a daily basis, responding swiftly and decisively when necessary.
  • Ensures adequate staffing levels are maintained for sample volumes and that personnel are properly trained for their roles
  • Works alongside the Laboratory Manager to oversee the recruitment and training of qualified laboratory staff
  • Facilitates the training of new analysts to integrate them as productive team members
  • Monitors the inventory of laboratory supplies to ensure it aligns with current workload demands
  • Adheres to safety protocols and ensures team compliance with these standards
  • Proactively addresses safety concerns as they arise in the laboratory to minimize risks and promote safe practices
  • Actively champions a robust culture of safe laboratory practices and the maintenance of a secure working environment
  • Keeps supervisory and management teams informed of any potential challenges
  • Provides relevant information to supervisory and managerial staff regarding instrumentation, production, and personnel matters
  • Performs additional duties as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Chemistry discipline and 4+ years of relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories or equivalent education and experience (Required)
  • Experience with GCMS (Required)
  • Familiarity with EPA TO15, TO17, and 325 Methods (Strongly Preferred)
  • Experience with thermal desorption tubes (Strongly Preferred)
  • Knowledge of 6L and 1L canister sampling and analysis (Strongly Preferred)
  • 3+ years of mass spectrometry experience (Required)
  • 1+ years of supervisory experience (Strongly Preferred)
  • Advanced English language proficiency (Required)
  • Understanding of environmental testing protocols, regulations, and certifications relevant to the department (Required)
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential for this position (Required)
  • Solid grasp of processes and workflows (Required)
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to execute instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form. Capability to manage problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations (Required)
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as SOPs, safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals (Required)
  • Ability to compose routine reports and correspondence. Proficient in delivering effective presentations to groups of customers or employees (Required)
  • Exhibits a high level of integrity in all situations and shows respect towards others and company principles (Required)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; actively listens to others, asks questions for clarification, and provides feedback with tact and consideration (Required)
  • Strong time management skills, including the ability to balance multiple projects with varying deadlines and arrange necessary resources to complete them (Required)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook) (Required)
  • Experience with LIMS (Preferred)

The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000 (dependent on experience). This position is not eligible for overtime.

Additionally, the compensation package includes the following benefits:

  • Participation in the Company's benefit programs coinciding with or following the first of the month in which you are hired.
