Position: Endocrinology Laboratory Specialist
Department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences

The Department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Endocrinology Laboratory Specialist. This position is essential for ensuring the operational excellence of the Diagnostic Endocrinology Service. Key responsibilities encompass conducting routine hormone evaluations on clinical samples, assisting with specimen intake, executing general laboratory functions, complying with safety regulations, maintaining patient confidentiality, and delivering exceptional customer service.

Depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate, the individual may be appointed as a Laboratory Technologist 1, Laboratory Technologist 2, Senior Laboratory Technologist 1, or Senior Laboratory Technologist 2.



Key Responsibilities:

Hormone Evaluation:

  • Set up and execute hormone assays on clinical samples.
  • Ensure quality control by evaluating assay performance.
  • Review and document results accurately.
  • Operate standard and specialized laboratory equipment for hormone analysis.
  • Participate in general and specialized safety training.
  • Adhere to established safety protocols.

Specimen Management:

  • Receive, organize, and accession specimens for diagnostic testing.
  • Process specimens for analytical evaluation.
  • Prepare specimens for transportation to external laboratories.

Client Interaction:

  • Engage with veterinarians, technicians, students, and pet owners regarding testing protocols and results.
  • Maintain confidentiality of test results.
  • Ensure timely communication of results to clients.

Laboratory Maintenance:

  • Restock laboratory supplies as needed.
  • Dispose of biohazard materials following proper protocols.
  • Document and store radioactive assay kits appropriately.
  • Assist in maintaining chemical inventories.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization within the laboratory environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related laboratory science.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory procedures.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant additional experience in a laboratory setting.

The operational nature of the Veterinary Medical Center requires flexibility, including the possibility of weekend, evening, or holiday shifts.
