The Department of Biomedical and Diagnostic Sciences is seeking candidates for the role of Endocrinology Laboratory Specialist. This position is essential for ensuring the operational excellence of the Diagnostic Endocrinology Service under the supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor. Key responsibilities encompass conducting standard hormone evaluations on clinical samples, assisting with specimen intake, executing routine laboratory functions, adhering to safety regulations, maintaining confidentiality of client information, and delivering exceptional customer service.

Depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate, the position may be filled at various levels, including Laboratory Technologist 1, Laboratory Technologist 2, Senior Laboratory Technologist 1, or Senior Laboratory Technologist 2.



Core Responsibilities:

Hormone Evaluation:

  • Conducts hormone assays on clinical samples
  • Ensures quality control by evaluating assay performance
  • Reviews and documents results accurately
  • Operates standard and specialized laboratory equipment for hormone evaluations
  • Participates in safety training programs, including radiation safety
  • Adheres to established safety protocols

Specimen Management:

  • Receives and organizes specimens for diagnostic testing
  • Processes samples for analysis
  • Prepares specimens for shipment to external laboratories

Client Interaction:

  • Communicates with veterinarians, technicians, students, and pet owners regarding testing protocols and results
  • Maintains confidentiality of test results
  • Ensures timely delivery of results to clients

Laboratory Upkeep:

  • Restocks laboratory supplies as needed
  • Disposes of biohazard materials following proper protocols
  • Documents receipt and storage of radioactive assay kits
  • Assists in maintaining chemical inventories
  • Ensures cleanliness and organization of the laboratory environment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related laboratory science
  • Basic understanding of laboratory procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant experience in a laboratory setting

This position requires flexibility, as the operational hours span 24/7, which may include occasional weekend, evening, or holiday shifts.
