Position Overview

Relocation assistance is available for this role.

Our laboratory is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to oversee the GCMS team. The Laboratory Supervisor is accountable for the daily operations within their department. This role involves collaborating with Team Leads to manage sample processing, ensuring that turnaround times are achieved while upholding data quality that meets or surpasses industry standards. The Laboratory Supervisor plays a crucial role in fostering a safe working culture and environment throughout the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinates departmental workflow to ensure timely processing of samples.
  • Collaborates with Team Leads to optimize staff and equipment resources for maximum sample throughput, ensuring production goals are met.
  • Utilizes LIMS to guarantee proper sample processing and updates sample statuses as necessary.
  • Employs technical judgment to identify potential issues with processed samples.
  • Implements best practices in the laboratory to enhance operational efficiency and maintain data quality standards.
  • Exhibits strong leadership through effective planning, delegation, and empowerment of team members, leading by example.
  • Ensures adequate staffing levels for sample volumes and that personnel are properly trained for their roles.
  • Collaborates with the Laboratory Manager to oversee the recruitment and training of skilled laboratory personnel.
  • Assists in training new analysts to ensure they become effective team members.
  • Maintains appropriate inventory levels of laboratory supplies based on current workloads.
  • Adheres to safety protocols and ensures team compliance with safety requirements.
  • Proactively addresses safety concerns as they arise to minimize risks and promote safe practices.
  • Actively cultivates a strong culture of safety and a secure working environment.
  • Keeps supervisory and management teams informed of any potential issues.
  • Provides relevant information to supervisory and managerial staff regarding instrumentation, production, and personnel matters.
  • Performs additional duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Chemistry discipline with 4+ years of relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories or equivalent education and experience (Required).
  • Experience with GCMS (Required).
  • Familiarity with EPA TO15, TO17, and 325 Methods (Strongly Preferred).
  • Experience with thermal desorption tubes (Strongly Preferred).
  • Knowledge of 6L and 1L canister sampling and analysis (Strongly Preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of mass spectrometry experience (Required).
  • At least 1 year of supervisory experience (Strongly Preferred).
  • Advanced proficiency in English (Required).
  • Understanding of environmental testing protocols, regulations, and certifications relevant to the department (Required).
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills (Required).
  • Solid grasp of processes and workflows (Required).
  • Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions and resolve problems involving multiple variables (Required).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as SOPs, safety rules, and procedure manuals (Required).
  • Ability to compose routine reports and correspondence, and effectively communicate with groups (Required).
  • Demonstrates integrity and respect towards others and company principles (Required).
  • Excellent communication skills; actively listens, asks clarifying questions, and provides constructive feedback (Required).
  • Strong time management skills, capable of balancing multiple projects with varying deadlines (Required).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook) (Required).
  • Experience with LIMS (Preferred).

The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000 (dependent on experience). This is not an overtime eligible position.

In addition, your compensation package includes the following benefits:

  • Participation in the Company's benefit programs coincident or following the first of the month in which you are hired.

    • Four (4) floating holidays annually.
