Position Overview

Relocation assistance is available for this role.

Our laboratory is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to oversee the GCMS team. The Laboratory Supervisor is accountable for the daily operations within their designated department. This role involves collaborating with Team Leads to manage sample processing to ensure timely results while upholding data integrity that meets or surpasses industry benchmarks. The Laboratory Supervisor is also tasked with fostering a safe working culture and environment throughout the laboratory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage workflow within the department to guarantee timely results
  • Collaborate with Team Leads to optimize staff and equipment resources to enhance sample processing and meet production goals
  • Utilize LIMS to ensure proper sample processing and update sample statuses as necessary
  • Apply technical expertise to identify potential issues with processed samples
  • Assist in implementing best practices within the laboratory to improve operational efficiency and maintain data quality standards
  • Exhibit strong leadership through effective planning, delegation, and empowerment of team members, leading by example. Manage personnel and performance on a daily basis, responding swiftly and decisively when needed.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels for sample volumes and that team members are adequately trained for their roles
  • Work alongside the Laboratory Manager to oversee the recruitment and training of skilled laboratory personnel
  • Support the training of new analysts to ensure they become effective contributors to the team
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of laboratory supplies in line with current workloads
  • Adhere to safety protocols for all tasks and ensure team compliance with these standards
  • Promptly address safety concerns as they arise in the laboratory to minimize risks and promote safe practices
  • Actively encourage a robust culture of safe laboratory practices and the upkeep of a secure working environment
  • Keep supervisory and management teams informed of any potential issues
  • Provide relevant information to supervisory and managerial staff regarding instrumentation, production, and personnel matters
  • Perform additional duties as required

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Chemistry discipline and 4+ years of relevant experience in Analytical Chemistry Laboratories or equivalent education and experience (Required)
  • Experience with GCMS (Required)
  • Familiarity with EPA TO15, TO17, and 325 Methods (Strongly Preferred)
  • Experience with thermal desorption tubes (Strongly Preferred)
  • Knowledge of 6L and 1L canister sampling and analysis (Strongly Preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience in mass spectrometry (Required)
  • 1+ years of supervisory experience (Strongly Preferred)
  • Advanced proficiency in English (Required)
  • Understanding of environmental testing protocols, regulations, and certifications relevant to the department (Required)
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills are essential for this position (Required)
  • Solid understanding of processes and workflows (Required)
  • Ability to follow instructions in written, oral, or diagram form and address problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations (Required)
  • Capability to read and interpret documents such as SOPs, safety regulations, and procedure manuals (Required)
  • Ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively with groups (Required)
  • Demonstrate a high level of integrity and respect towards others and company principles (Required)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; actively listen, ask clarifying questions, and provide constructive feedback (Required)
  • Strong time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines (Required)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Excel, Word, Outlook) (Required)
  • Experience with LIMS (Preferred)

The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $75,000 (dependent on experience). This is not an overtime eligible position.

In addition, your compensation package includes the following benefits:

  • Participation in the Company's benefit programs coincident or following the first of the month in which you are hired.
