Position Overview

This executive role is integral to a premier, multi-disciplinary, global team focused on Risk Advisory & Assurance Services. The primary objective is to enhance operational effectiveness across the organization by delivering risk-based independent assurance, strategic advice, and insightful analysis to the Board of Directors and Senior Management.

The position entails comprehensive oversight of all operational activities within the maritime Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security (HESS) sectors. This includes evaluating adherence to the safety management system and identifying opportunities for best practices within the HESS framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Audit and Advisory Functions:
    • Lead a team of 29 internal auditors across multiple brands.
    • Formulate the annual HESS audit strategy.
    • Supervise internal International Safety Management (ISM) audits, facilitating root cause analyses and developing management action plans.
    • Conduct assessments of new ship builds regarding ISM compliance prior to delivery.
    • Manage shore-based HESS audits of port operations, tour facilities, and training centers.
    • Review HESS processes, systems, and organizational designs across brands to extract best practice insights.
  • Monitoring and Follow-Up:
    • Evaluate and track management's progress on implementing agreed-upon opportunities quarterly, including:
    • Action plans from SMS audits.
    • Action plans from shore-based audits and cross-brand reviews.
    • Action plans stemming from HESS investigations.
  • Staff Development: Oversee training and development initiatives, ensuring the maintenance of a global quality control program.
  • Reporting:
    • Provide updates to the Chief Audit Officer on:
    • Daily HESS audit operations.
    • The annual HESS project strategy.
    • Audit scope, objectives, and current status.
    • Audit findings and trends by HESS discipline.
    • Management actions taken to address findings or improve operational effectiveness.
  • Board Communication:
    • Report to the Board on:
    • The annual audit strategy.
    • Audit findings and trends by HESS discipline.
    • Status of management action plan implementations.
  • Relationship Management: Cultivate effective working relationships with Senior Executive brand HESS Management, including brand Presidents, the Chief Maritime Officer, the CEO, and the Chair of the HESS Committees.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a maritime-related discipline; advanced degrees or relevant licenses (Deck Officer, Chief Engineer) are advantageous.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the maritime sector.

Travel Requirements: Less than 25% travel, including potential shipboard assignments.

Work Environment: Primarily operates in a climate-controlled setting with minimal safety or health hazards.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $240,000, with offers made based on relevant skills and experience.
