Position Overview

This executive role is integral to a premier, multi-disciplinary international team focused on Risk Advisory & Assurance Services. The primary objective is to enhance operational value and drive continuous improvement across the organization by delivering risk-based independent assurance, guidance, and insights to the Board of Directors and Senior Management.

The position entails comprehensive oversight of all operational activities related to maritime Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security (HESS) disciplines. This includes evaluating adherence to safety management systems and identifying opportunities for best practices within the HESS framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Audit and Advisory Functions:
    • Lead a dedicated internal audit team of 29 FTE across multiple brands.
    • Formulate the annual HESS audit strategy.
    • Oversee internal International Safety Management (ISM) audits across brands, facilitating root cause analyses and developing management action plans.
    • Conduct assessments of newbuild ships' ISM prior to delivery.
    • Manage shore-based HESS audits of port operations, tour facilities, and training centers.
    • Review HESS processes, systems, and organizational designs across brands to uncover best practice insights.
  • Monitoring and Follow-Up:
    • Evaluate and track management's progress on implementing agreed-upon opportunities at least quarterly, including:
      • Management action plans for SMS audits.
      • Management action plans for shore-based audits and cross-brand insights.
      • Management action plans stemming from HESS investigations.
  • Oversee training and development initiatives for staff, ensuring the maintenance of a global quality control program.
  • Report to the Chief Audit Officer on:
    • Daily HESS audit activities.
    • The annual HESS project agenda.
    • The scope, objectives, and status of audits.
    • Audit outcomes and trends by HESS discipline.
    • Actions taken by management to address findings or enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Provide updates to the Board on:
    • The annual audit strategy.
    • Audit results and trends by HESS discipline.
    • Status of management action plan implementations.
  • Foster effective working relationships with Senior Executive brand HESS Management, including brand Presidents, the Chief Maritime Officer, the CEO, and the Chair of the HESS Committees.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a Maritime-related field; a Master's degree or relevant licenses (Deck Officer, Chief Engineer, or equivalent) is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the maritime industry.

Travel Requirements: Less than 25% travel, including potential shipboard assignments.

Work Environment: Primarily in a climate-controlled setting with minimal safety or health hazards.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $240,000, with offers made based on relevant skills and experience.
