Position Overview

This position is integral to a premier, multi-disciplinary, global team focused on Risk Advisory & Assurance Services. The primary objective is to enhance operational value and ensure continuous improvement throughout the Corporation by delivering risk-based independent assurance, insights, and guidance to the Board of Directors and Senior Management.

The individual in this role will supervise all operational activities within the maritime Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security (HESS) sectors. This includes evaluating adherence to the safety management system and identifying opportunities for best practices within the HESS framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Audit and Advisory Functions:
    • Lead a dedicated internal audit team of 29 professionals across nine brands.
    • Formulate the annual HESS audit strategy.
    • Oversee internal International Safety Management (ISM) audits, including facilitating root cause analyses and developing management action plans.
    • Conduct assessments of new ship builds regarding ISM compliance prior to delivery.
    • Manage shore-based HESS audits for port operations, training facilities, and tour facilities.
    • Review HESS-related processes, systems, and organizational designs across brands to uncover best practice insights.
  • Monitoring and Assessment:
    • Evaluate and track management's progress on implementing agreed-upon opportunities on a quarterly basis, including:
      • Management action plans from SMS audits.
      • Management action plans from shore-based audits and cross-brand reviews.
      • Management action plans arising from HESS investigations.
Training and Development: Oversee staff training initiatives and maintain the global quality control program.Reporting:
  • Provide updates to the Chief Audit Officer on:
    • Daily HESS audit operations.
    • The annual HESS project strategy.
    • Audit scope, objectives, and status.
    • Audit findings and trends by HESS discipline.
    • Management actions taken to address findings or enhance operational effectiveness.
Report to the Board on:
  • The annual audit strategy.
  • Audit outcomes.
  • Trends in audits by HESS discipline.
  • Status of management action plan implementations.
Relationship Management: Cultivate effective working relationships with Senior Executive brand HESS Management, brand Presidents, the Chief Maritime Officer, the CEO, and the Chair of the HESS Committees.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Maritime-related discipline; advanced degrees or licenses such as a Deck Officer's License, Chief Engineer, or Engineer Officer's license are preferred, or any equivalent combination of relevant Maritime HESS qualifications.
  • A minimum of 10 years of maritime industry experience.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $240,000. Offers will be made based on fair and equitable considerations of specific job-related skills and experience.

Total Rewards: At Carnival, the total rewards package extends beyond base salary. All non-sales roles are eligible for an annual cash bonus program, while sales roles may have an incentive plan. Director-level and above positions may also qualify for Carnival's discretionary equity incentive plan.
