Position Overview

This position is integral to a premier, multi-disciplinary, global team within Risk Advisory & Assurance Services, dedicated to enhancing operational value and continuous improvement across the organization. The role provides independent, risk-based assurance, guidance, and insights to the Board of Directors and Senior Management.

Specifically, this position oversees all operational activities related to maritime Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security (HESS) disciplines. Responsibilities include evaluating adherence to safety management systems and identifying opportunities for best practices within the HESS framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Audit and Advisory Functions:
    • Lead a team of 29 internal auditors across multiple brands.
    • Formulate the annual HESS audit strategy.
    • Manage internal International Safety Management (ISM) audits, facilitating root cause analyses and action plan development.
    • Conduct assessments of new ship builds' ISM prior to delivery.
    • Supervise shore-based HESS audits of port operations and training facilities.
    • Review HESS processes, systems, and organizational designs to uncover best practice insights.
  • Monitoring and Assessment:
    • Quarterly review management's progress on implementing agreed-upon opportunities, including:
      • Action plans from SMS audits.
      • Action plans from shore-based audits and cross-brand reviews.
      • Action plans stemming from HESS investigations.
  • Training and Development: Oversee staff training initiatives and maintain the global quality control program.
  • Reporting:
    • Provide updates to the Chief Audit Officer on:
      • Daily HESS audit operations.
      • The annual HESS project agenda.
      • Audit scope, objectives, and outcomes.
      • Trends and results by HESS discipline.
      • Management actions taken to address findings or enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Board Reporting:
    • Report on:
      • The annual audit strategy.
      • Audit outcomes.
      • Trends by HESS discipline.
      • Implementation status of management action plans.
  • Relationship Management: Cultivate effective relationships with Senior Executive brand HESS Management, including brand Presidents, the Chief Maritime Officer, the CEO, and the Chair of the HESS Committees.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Maritime-related field; advanced degrees or relevant maritime licenses are preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the maritime sector.

Travel Requirements: Less than 25% travel, including potential shipboard assignments.

Work Environment: Primarily office-based in a climate-controlled setting with minimal health and safety risks.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $240,000, with offers made based on job-related skills and experience.
