Position Overview

This executive role is integral to a premier international team focused on Risk Advisory & Assurance Services, dedicated to enhancing operational value and efficiency throughout the organization. The position involves providing independent, risk-based assurance and strategic insights to the Board of Directors and Senior Management.

The primary responsibility includes overseeing all operational activities related to maritime Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security (HESS) disciplines. This encompasses evaluating adherence to safety management systems and identifying opportunities for best practices within the HESS framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Audit and Advisory Functions:
    • Lead a team of 29 internal auditors across multiple brands.
    • Formulate the annual HESS audit strategy.
    • Supervise internal International Safety Management (ISM) audits, facilitating root cause analyses and action plan development.
    • Conduct assessments of newbuild ships' ISM prior to delivery.
    • Manage shore-based HESS audits of port operations and training facilities.
    • Review HESS processes, systems, and organizational designs to uncover best practice insights.
  • Monitoring and Assessment:
    • Evaluate and track management's progress on implementing agreed-upon improvement opportunities quarterly.
    • Follow up on management action plans from SMS audits, shore-based audits, and HESS investigations.
  • Training and Development:
    • Oversee staff training initiatives and maintain the global quality control program.
  • Reporting:
    • Provide regular updates to the Chief Audit Officer regarding daily HESS audit activities, annual project plans, audit scopes, results, and trends.
    • Report to the Board on the annual audit plan, results, and the status of management action plans.
  • Relationship Management:
    • Establish effective working relationships with Senior Executive brand HESS Management, including brand Presidents, the Chief Maritime Officer, the CEO, and the Chair of the HESS Committees.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Maritime-related field; advanced degrees or relevant licenses are preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the maritime industry.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong maritime background.
  • Exceptional communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical abilities.
  • Outstanding organizational skills and judgment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • In-depth knowledge of maritime regulations applicable to passenger vessels.

Travel Requirements: Less than 25% travel, including potential shipboard assignments.

Work Environment: Primarily in a climate-controlled setting with minimal health and safety risks.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $240,000, with offers made based on relevant skills and experience.
