Position Overview

This position is integral to a premier, multi-disciplinary, global team within the Risk Advisory & Assurance Services sector, dedicated to enhancing operational value and continuous improvement across the organization. The role provides independent, risk-based assurance, guidance, and insights to the Board of Directors and Senior Management.

Specifically, this position oversees all operational activities related to maritime Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security (HESS) disciplines. Responsibilities include evaluating adherence to safety management systems and identifying opportunities for best practices within the HESS framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Audit and Advisory Functions:
    • Lead a 29 FTE internal audit team across multiple brands.
    • Develop the annual HESS audit strategy.
    • Supervise internal International Safety Management (ISM) audits, including root cause analysis and action plan formulation.
    • Conduct assessments of newbuild ships' ISM prior to delivery.
    • Manage shore-based HESS audits of port operations, training facilities, and tour facilities.
    • Oversee HESS process, system, and organizational design reviews to identify best practice insights.
  • Monitoring and Assessment:
    • Evaluate and track management's progress on implementing agreed opportunities quarterly, including:
      • Action plans from SMS audits.
      • Action plans from shore-based audits and cross-brand reviews.
      • Action plans arising from HESS investigations.
  • Ensure staff training and development, maintaining a global quality control program.
  • Report to the Chief Audit Officer on:
    • Daily HESS audit activities.
    • The annual HESS project plan.
    • Audit scope, objectives, and status.
    • Audit outcomes and trends by HESS discipline.
    • Management actions taken to address findings or enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Provide reports to the Board regarding:
    • The annual audit strategy.
    • Audit outcomes and trends by HESS discipline.
    • Status of management action plan implementations.
  • Foster effective relationships with Senior Executive brand HESS Management, including brand Presidents, the Chief Maritime Officer, the CEO, and the Chair of the HESS Committees.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Maritime-related field; a Master's degree or relevant maritime certifications (e.g., Deck Officer's License, Chief Engineer License) are preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of maritime industry experience.

Travel Requirements: Less than 25%, with potential shipboard travel.

Work Environment: Primarily in a climate-controlled setting with minimal safety or health hazards.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $240,000, with offers made equitably based on relevant skills and experience.

Additional Benefits: Carnival offers a comprehensive rewards package beyond base salary, including participation in an annual cash bonus program for non-sales roles and potential eligibility for discretionary equity incentive plans for Director-level positions and above.
