Position Overview

This executive role is integral to a premier, multi-disciplinary, global team within the Risk Advisory & Assurance Services sector. The primary objective is to enhance operational value and continuously elevate performance across the organization by delivering risk-based independent assurance, guidance, and insights to the Board of Directors and Senior Management.

Specifically, this position entails supervising all operational activities related to maritime Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security (HESS) disciplines. Responsibilities include assessing adherence to the safety management system and identifying opportunities for best practices within the HESS domain.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Audit and Advisory Functions:
    • Lead a team of 29 internal auditors across nine brands.
    • Formulate the annual HESS audit strategy.
    • Oversee internal International Safety Management (ISM) audits across various brands, including facilitating root cause analyses and developing management action plans.
    • Conduct assessments of newbuild ships' ISM prior to delivery.
    • Manage shore-based HESS audits of port operations, tour facilities, and training centers.
    • Review HESS-related processes, systems, and organizational designs across brands to extract best practice insights.
  • Monitoring and Assessment:
    • Evaluate and track management's progress on implementing agreed-upon opportunities at least quarterly, including:
      • Management action plans from SMS audits.
      • Management action plans from shore-based audits and cross-brand insight reviews.
      • Management action plans stemming from HESS investigations.
  • Staff Development: Oversee training and development initiatives for staff, ensuring the maintenance of a global quality control program.
  • Reporting:
    • Provide updates to the Chief Audit Officer regarding:
      • Daily HESS audit activities.
      • The annual HESS project strategy.
      • The scope, objectives, and current status of audits.
      • Audit findings and trends by HESS discipline.
      • Actions taken by management to address findings or improve operational effectiveness.
  • Board Engagement:
    • Report to the Board on:
      • The annual audit strategy.
      • Audit findings and trends by HESS discipline.
      • The status of management action plan implementations.
  • Relationship Management: Cultivate effective working relationships with Senior Executive brand HESS Management, brand Presidents, the Chief Maritime Officer, the CEO, and the Chair of the HESS Committees.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Maritime-related field; a Master's degree or relevant maritime licenses (e.g., Deck Officer's License, Chief Engineer) are preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the maritime industry.

Travel Requirements: Less than 25% travel, with potential shipboard travel.

Work Environment: Primarily in a climate-controlled setting with minimal safety or health hazards.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $240,000, with offers made based on relevant skills and experience.

Additional Benefits: Carnival offers a comprehensive rewards package that extends beyond base salary, including participation in an annual cash bonus program for non-sales roles and potential eligibility for discretionary equity incentive plans for Director-level positions and above.
