Position Overview

This executive role is integral to a premier, multidisciplinary global team within the Risk Advisory & Assurance Services sector. The primary objective is to enhance value and drive operational improvements across the organization by delivering risk-based independent assurance, strategic advice, and insightful analysis to the Board of Directors and Senior Management.

Specifically, this position entails the oversight of all operational activities related to maritime Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security (HESS) disciplines. This includes evaluating adherence to the safety management system and identifying opportunities for best practices within the HESS framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Audit and Advisory Functions:
    • Lead a dedicated internal audit team of 29 professionals across nine distinct brands.
    • Formulate the annual Health, Environment, Safety, and Security (HESS) audit strategy.
    • Supervise internal International Safety Management (ISM) audits across brands, facilitating root cause analyses and developing management action plans.
    • Conduct assessments of new ship builds regarding ISM compliance prior to delivery.
    • Manage shore-based HESS audits of port operations, tour facilities, and training centers.
    • Review HESS-related processes, systems, and organizational designs across brands to extract best practice insights.
  • Monitoring and Assessment:
    • Quarterly review of management's progress on implementing agreed-upon opportunities, including:
      • Management action plans from SMS audits.
      • Management action plans from shore-based audits and cross-brand reviews.
      • Management action plans arising from HESS investigations.
Oversee staff training and development initiatives, ensuring the maintenance of a global quality control program.Report to the Chief Audit Officer on:
  • Daily HESS audit operations.
  • The annual HESS project agenda.
  • The scope, objectives, and current status of audits.
  • Audit findings and trends by HESS discipline.
  • Actions taken by management to address findings or enhance operational effectiveness.
Provide reports to the Board regarding:
  • The annual audit agenda.
  • Audit outcomes.
  • Trends in audits by HESS discipline.
  • The status of management action plan implementations.
Foster effective working relationships with Senior Executive brand HESS Management, including brand Presidents, the Chief Maritime Officer, the CEO, and the Chair of the HESS Committees.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Maritime-related field; a Master's degree or Deck Officer's License, Chief Engineer or Engineer Officer's license, or an equivalent combination of relevant Maritime Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security disciplines.
  • A minimum of 10 years of maritime industry experience.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $240,000. Offers will be made equitably based on specific job-related skills and experience.

Additional Benefits: At Carnival, the total rewards package extends beyond base salary. All non-sales roles are eligible for an annual cash bonus program, while sales roles have an incentive plan. Director-level and above positions may qualify for Carnival's discretionary equity incentive plan.
