Position Overview

This executive role is integral to a premier international team focused on Risk Advisory & Assurance Services, dedicated to enhancing operational effectiveness across the organization. The position provides critical risk-based independent assurance, guidance, and insights to the Board of Directors and Senior Management.

The primary responsibility includes supervising all operational activities related to maritime Health, Environmental, Safety, and Security (HESS) disciplines. This encompasses evaluating adherence to safety management systems and identifying opportunities for best practices within the HESS framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Audit and Advisory Functions:
    • Lead a team of 29 internal auditors across multiple brands.
    • Formulate the annual HESS audit strategy.
    • Manage internal International Safety Management (ISM) audits, including conducting root cause analyses and developing management action plans.
    • Oversee assessments of newbuild ships' ISM prior to delivery.
    • Conduct shore-based HESS audits of port operations, training facilities, and other company locations.
    • Review HESS processes, systems, and organizational designs across brands to extract best practice insights.
  • Monitoring and Follow-Up:
    • Evaluate and track management's progress on implementing agreed opportunities, including:
      • Action plans from SMS audits.
      • Plans from shore-based audits and cross-brand reviews.
      • Plans stemming from HESS investigations.
  • Training and Development: Supervise staff training initiatives and uphold the global quality control program.
  • Reporting:
    • Provide updates to the Chief Audit Officer on:
      • Daily HESS audit operations.
      • The annual HESS project agenda.
      • Audit scope, objectives, and progress.
      • Audit findings and trends by HESS discipline.
      • Management's actions to address findings and improve operational effectiveness.
  • Board Engagement:
    • Report to the Board on:
      • The annual audit strategy.
      • Audit outcomes.
      • Trends in audits by HESS discipline.
      • Status of management action plan implementations.
  • Relationship Management: Cultivate effective partnerships with Senior Executive brand HESS Management, including brand Presidents, the Chief Maritime Officer, the CEO, and the Chair of the HESS Committees.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Maritime-related discipline; a Master's degree or relevant maritime licenses (Deck Officer, Chief Engineer) are preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the maritime sector.

Compensation: The salary range for this position is $200,000 - $240,000, with offers made based on relevant skills and experience.
