TITLE:
Lead Engineer for Advanced Train Control Systems

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee the development and execution of train control initiatives, focusing on Positive Train Control (PTC) systems. Ensure configuration management of train control hardware and software as they transition from Verification and Validation (V&V) to operational deployment. Establish critical processes and protocols to enhance the safety of modifications made to PTC systems. Maintain and develop configuration management protocols for the Engineering Department's PTC Lab, ensuring the integrity of files, databases, and firmware revisions. Coordinate all laboratory testing activities and confirm the configuration of both components under evaluation and necessary support tools/systems for each test. Collaborate with staff engineers to review design alterations for ACSES (Advanced Civil Speed Enforcement System) Transponders and WIU (Wayside Interface Unit) to formulate lab simulation/test procedures. Conduct lab tests for ACSES Transponders and WIUs, generating validation reports and logs/analyses for staff engineers' review. Execute functional testing of ACSES components to diagnose and evaluate defects identified in the field. Organize and direct test trains to validate updates to wayside ACSES and the behavior of OBC (On-Board Computer) ACSES.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related discipline, accompanied by three (3) years of post-baccalaureate experience in the role or a related field in Electrical or Hardware Engineering.

Experience must encompass three (3) years in: (1)


Designing, implementing, and maintaining Positive Train Control (PTC) systems and adhering to industry-standard practices regarding communication protocols and train control systems.

Additionally, candidates must possess two (2) years of experience in each of the following areas:
(2) Designing PTC systems related to Transponders and WIUs; (3) Developing test plans to ensure compliance of all PTC elements (Wayside and OnBoard) with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) safety regulations; (4) Analyzing ACSES and ATC OBC logs from locomotives to identify the root causes of reported delays; (5) Leading projects focused on the design, analysis, implementation, and testing of modifications to PTC systems, particularly those affecting safety functions; (6) Creating and executing qualification plans to verify ACSES OBC functionalities and their interfaces with PTC-equipped wayside systems; (7) Navigating FRA and AREMA regulations; and (8) Developing and sustaining configuration management processes for the Engineering Department's PTC lab to ensure proper maintenance of configuration files, databases, and firmware revisions. All experience may be acquired concurrently. Remote work is permitted in accordance with standard company policy. All positions require pre-employment background check verification and a pre-employment drug screen. Candidates must be available to travel up to 25% of their schedule to provide onsite field support as necessary to various vendors nationwide.



SALARY:
$103,700 - $149,400 per year
