Exciting Career Opportunity for Naval Control Systems Specialist

GBS Group is pleased to announce a remarkable job opening for a Naval Control Systems Specialist. In this role, you will engage both independently and collaboratively with designers and engineers on innovative projects associated with Naval ship platforms. Your responsibilities will encompass the development and design of advanced systems intended for deployment on U.S. Naval Vessels. Key tasks will include prototype execution and demonstration, troubleshooting, installation support, and coordination. You will also provide direct training to ship personnel and support staff while managing life cycle support functions. Furthermore, your contributions will be vital in creating future systems for HM&E Machinery Control Systems for the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, Army, and Military Sealift Ships.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Designing new or enhancing existing control systems and instrumentation systems for U.S. Navy vessels.
  • Assisting in the troubleshooting and repair of current control systems, addressing both electrical and mechanical interfaces.
  • Delivering onboard assistance, troubleshooting support, and training to shipboard personnel on system operation and maintenance.
  • Evaluating legacy systems and documentation to propose and implement system improvements.
  • Grasping system requirements and designing control and sensor circuitry for control systems.
  • Employing diagnostic tools and instruments effectively.
  • Gaining insights into and contributing to the advancement of major concepts and practices within the control system field.
  • Creating electrical and mechanical designs and thoroughly documenting systems.
  • Reviewing and producing technical documentation such as manuals and equipment lists.
  • Collaborating in a team environment with various stakeholders, including planning yards, shipyards, installation teams, and ship crews.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% as required by the position.
Qualifications:

Candidates for this position should possess the following educational background and experience:
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science from an accredited institution.
Preferred Experience:
  • Two (2) years of experience in designing and working with software and/or PLC-based control systems and instrumentation systems (familiarity with Rockwell/Allen Bradley equipment is preferred).
  • Two (2) years of experience in interpreting and modifying electrical schematics and diagrams.
  • Two (2) years of experience in utilizing test equipment and diagnostic tools for troubleshooting and configuring control systems and PLC-based hardware and software (preference for Rockwell/Allen Bradley).
  • Knowledge of Linux systems is a plus.
  • Strong independent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level government clearance; U.S. Citizenship is required.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Extended periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Strong troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Basic and advanced mathematical skills.
  • Ability to understand and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Capability to access and navigate all areas of a Naval/Maritime facility or ship.
  • Ability to squat, lift, stretch, and bend to reach all areas of the facility.
  • Involves kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders.
  • Ability to distinguish colors for identifying color-coded wiring.
