Position Overview:
As a key member of the Flight Control Systems team within the Engineering Directorate, you will engage in System Safety Engineering tasks related to rotorcraft flight control systems.

Your responsibilities will include executing safety processes in line with ARP4761 standards.

You will:
  • Develop Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Design Assessments (DA), and System Safety Assessments (SSA) for Flight Control Systems, encompassing intricate hardware and software.
  • Conduct fault tree analyses.
  • Identify safety mitigation strategies, maintenance, and inspection protocols.
  • Support the establishment, verification, and validation of safety-derived requirements.
  • Integrate supplier safety evaluations into company safety documentation.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on complex safety issues, ensuring high-quality safety data is provided.
  • Adhere to best practices for safety as established by AgustaWestland.
  • Engage with DERs, FAA, and other certification authorities on safety-related matters.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform safety analyses to support aircraft design, development, and certification for US products, including associated documentation. (60% of time)
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure acceptance of defined hazard classifications, developing metrics and reporting status to leadership. (20% of time)
  • Oversee validation of safety assumptions and collection of necessary artifacts. (5% of time)
  • Interface with FAA, DERs, and other regulatory bodies to substantiate assessments and aircraft design concerning safety. (10% of time)
  • Assist and coordinate with supply chain management on vendor activities and deliverables. (5% of time)

Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in a relevant engineering discipline such as Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a system safety role within aerospace, utilizing ARP-4761 or NASA CSRM standards, with at least 2 years in commercial aircraft certification programs.

Required Skills:
  • Proficient in applying Systems Engineering standards ARP-4754, ARP-4761, or NASA CSRM.
  • Experience in conducting Fault Tree Analysis using tools like Isograph Reliability Workbench.
  • Ability to interface with external suppliers for safety analysis.
  • Familiarity with aerospace standards DO-160, DO-178, DO-254.
  • Knowledge of FAA Certification Specifications FAR Part 25 and Part 29.
  • Understanding of the complete Systems Engineering life-cycle.
  • Basic knowledge of aircraft flight controls.
