Technical Support Engineer

POSITION OVERVIEW
The ideal candidate will be situated in the Livonia, MI region. This role primarily focuses on delivering technical assistance and preparing as well as presenting product demonstrations alongside the US Sales team and clients. The individual will coordinate and provide support for technical inquiries in collaboration with both Japanese and US Engineering teams. This position will report directly to the Automotive Sales Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as the main advanced technical resource for the Sales team and Hirose clients.
  • Engage directly with clients to address all application support inquiries, performance specifications, data requests, and new product development needs.
  • Assist in enhancing the Sales team's technical footprint within significant customer accounts.
  • Analyze customer technology trends and communicate these insights effectively.
  • Evaluate customer applications and competitor products through teardown analysis and measurement, and compile comprehensive reports.
  • Support technology and product demonstrations as requested by the Sales team.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using and maintaining electrical equipment.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with cable and harness manufacturers.
  • Contribute to sales promotion initiatives, including participation in exhibitions and creation of sales materials.

COMMUNICATION AND INTERACTION

  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills across all departments and with clients.
  • Deliver outstanding presentation skills for both internal and external meetings.
  • Maintain a proactive, innovative approach with a sense of urgency in responding to client requests.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience is required.
  • A minimum of five years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated communication, presence, and presentation skills to collaborate effectively with internal teams, external partners, and clients.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to drive initiatives successfully.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with CRM software is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Possess a positive attitude, proactive mindset, and strong work ethic as a team player.
  • Experience working in cross-cultural environments, particularly with Japanese companies, is a plus.
  • Ability to collaborate with Hirose Japan Sales and Engineering teams as required.
  • Self-motivated with a positive outlook and high energy levels.
  • A solid engineering aptitude with the capability to convey technical solutions, along with comprehensive knowledge of all Hirose product lines, is essential for addressing and resolving client-related challenges.
  • Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time to various customer R&D locations, which may include international travel.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without the need for visa sponsorship.
