Position Title: REEF Support Teacher

Department: REEF

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: REEF Operations Manager

Compensation: $17.50-$20.50/hourly (Part-time)

Washington Yu Ying's aftercare initiative, REEF, seeks enthusiastic and innovative support staff to enhance our program. This rewarding role involves facilitating the intellectual growth of children, interacting with them daily, and building trusting relationships with students, families, and educators. This position serves as an excellent entry point into the field of childhood development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the coordination of before and aftercare (REEF) programs for designated classrooms.
  • Support the successful execution of daily activities planned by Lead Teachers.
  • Lead classroom activities multiple times a week.
  • Monitor student behavior to encourage growth and progress, and communicate positive feedback to parents.
  • Enhance student engagement through positivity and encouragement during activities.
  • Innovate educational approaches and challenge yourself to lead unique activities.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to engage and educate students effectively.
  • Facilitate activities designed by lead teachers in their absence and consult with the REEF Team Lead or Manager for any concerns.
  • Anticipate the needs of teachers and students to ensure smooth activity execution.
  • Supervise and guarantee student safety during aftercare activities and field trips.
  • Ensure full student engagement in REEF classes.
  • Assist in supervising transitions between classes and group play.
  • Support students during monthly field trips, ensuring safe transitions.
  • Assist Lead Teachers in maintaining cleanliness and organization of materials used during REEF programs.
  • Ensure Lead Teachers have the necessary materials for their classes each day.
  • Support other REEF operational efforts as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Warm and approachable demeanor; ability to connect well with children and staff.
  • Experience with before-and-aftercare program administration is advantageous.
  • Basic technology skills, including proficiency in Google Suite, particularly GMail; Mac experience preferred.
  • Self-motivated with strong time management skills, capable of working independently and resolving issues proactively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with strong motivational abilities.

Terms of Employment: 10 Months

Working Environment: In-school. This role will involve interaction with students, parents, and staff.
