If you are passionate about Nebraska and all our great state has to offer, the Nebraska Tourism Commission has an exciting opportunity for you to join their team as a Manager of Community & Stakeholder Activation for Visit Nebraska Under administrative direction, this position will strategize, create, manage and coordinate a comprehensive statewide tourism relations program to build awareness of the importance and value of the visitor economy throughout the state.


The major focus of the position is to build an understanding of the role and significance of the tourism industry and its value in being a catalyst for state and community development in areas including destination brand and promotion, culture and quality of life, workforce and overall economic development.

Job Duties: In collaboration with stakeholders, creates and presents an educational program outlining the role and importance of the tourism/hospitality industry in Nebraska, using for example, Destination International's recent "

Destination Promotion:
A Catalyst for Community Vitality" study as a guide.

Establishes relationships and alliances and collaborates with state/local government agencies and business organizations (Rotary Clubs, Chambers, Foundations, etc.) about the important role destination marketing plays in creating a chain reaction of benefits including economic (visitor spending and business development), community well-being and quality of life and in helping to support/sustain local and statewide government services.

Leads development of a community activation blueprint for use at the local level for building resident understanding of the value of the tourism industry's contributions to local economies and quality of life.

Coordinates and manages an industry-related speakers bureau to raise awareness and understanding of tourism in Nebraska through grassroots education and collaboration.

Provides communities and organizations with programming, educational materials and building a tourism ambassadors program to create local and ongoing knowledge about the value of the visitor economy in community well-being.

Acts as a resource for industry leads and represents the agency at trade shows and public events to promote tourism awareness efforts.

Creates and distributes and tourism update newsletter to various audiences including county officials (NACO), city officials (League of Nebraska Municipalities), agencies of state government and state elected officials.

Plans, organizes, coordinates and manages program operations and assigns, coordinates and reviews industry awareness efforts of Visit Nebraska consultant staff.

Provides relevant industry-related content to various organizations for publication in their stakeholder/membership communications. Serves as a liaison between communities and industry stakeholders regarding agency programs and services. Additional duties as assigned within the scope of classification.

Requirements / Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Post high school coursework in business administration, economics, marketing or finance; bachelor's degree preferred; plus 5-7 years' experience in advanced sales, economic development and/or international marketing; foreign language speaking abilities would be a plus.

Other:
This position requires travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license or another form of reliable transportation. Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Extensive experience, contacts and understanding of current and emerging segments in tourism, community and economic development on statewide and local levels. Complete understanding of factors affecting destination marketing as a leading catalyst for community development including a record of success in collaborating with associations/groups with diverse yet related interests. Ability to collaborate with and establish working relationships at state and local levels with legislators, county and city officials, community development and business organizations. Knowledge of creating, developing and activating education programs related to building awareness of tourism and advocacy efforts to nurture understanding, support and acceptance of the visitor economy among state residents.

Knowledge of:
best practices in developing an overarching education and advocacy program across multiple industry segments/interest groups; the structure and stakeholder segments in the travel/hospitality industry in the state; Nebraska and its local and state governmental operations; role and contribution of the tourism industry in state's economy; presentation and persuasive skills while working with business leaders, elected officials, government agencies and commissions; creating programming from conceptual frameworks including measurable/trackable elements and reporting results

Ability to:

bring together industry, stakeholder, governmental and resident groups and organizations with diverse interests into collaborative partnerships; advise statewide and local organizations about how to activate understanding of the value of the visitor economy; build partnerships and establish networks of understanding and advocates for tourism in the state; implement and monitor projects and strategic plan efforts, and evaluate the work of specialized staff.
