Your contributions will play a crucial role in shaping the future of space exploration, demanding your unwavering commitment and meticulous attention to detail for safe and repeatable spaceflight.

As a member of our unique and rapidly evolving team, you will be responsible for developing, qualifying, and supporting the production of gas tungsten arc (GTA) and variable polarity plasma arc (VPPA) welding processes for hardware, adhering to Blue Origin's stringent aerospace standards.

You will engage directly with engineers and technicians in the manufacturing sector to construct our launch vehicles and spacecraft.

We seek individuals who are passionate about space and possess a strong drive to achieve results while continuously learning and improving.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, test, and validate manual, mechanized, and orbital GTA and VPPA welding schedules.
  • Analyze NDT results from processed hardware and manage nonconformance dispositions.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of manufacturing and tooling engineers, as well as skilled trades, to develop tooling and welding procedures for flight hardware.
  • Operate equipment as necessary.
  • Specify, execute, and interpret mechanical and metallurgical weld tests.
  • Provide daily support for GTA and VPPA work areas, including shop travelers, production schedules, welder qualifications, and material traceability documentation.
  • Oversee projects and maintain relationships with external testing laboratories, material suppliers, equipment vendors, and other business entities.
  • Exhibit general shop skills, including Foreign Object and Debris (FOD) prevention, material handling, safety protocols, calibration requirements, ESD, and contamination control of precision clean systems.
  • Travel as required to support design interface meetings, equipment assistance, or off-site development initiatives.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace to uphold a 5S work environment.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in GTA, PA, or VPPA welding, with proficiency in process development and enhancements.
  • Solid understanding of metallurgy and/or arc physics.
  • Approachable demeanor, open-mindedness, and adaptability to rapidly changing requirements.
  • Calm under pressure, with a tenacity for resolving conflicts for long-term solutions.
  • Ability to build trust, maintain positive professional relationships, and contribute to an inclusive culture.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in materials or welding engineering.
  • Familiarity with aerospace fusion welding processes for stainless steel, nickel, titanium, and aluminum materials.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Strong written communication and computer skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities.
  • Experience in interpreting weld NDT results.
  • Proficient in writing and maintaining WPS, PQR, and WQR in accordance with AWS D17.1 or other welding standards.
  • Hands-on experience with machining and welding.
  • Knowledge of operation, programming, calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanized and orbital welding systems.
  • Proficient in CAD software (Creo preferred).

Inclusivity Statement:

At Blue Origin, we are committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace. If you are excited about this role but your experience does not align perfectly with every desired qualification, we encourage you to apply. You may be the right candidate for this or other roles.

Benefits:
