Role Overview:

This position plays a crucial role in the development and operation of New Glenn, a heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed for regular missions to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar space, and beyond.

The first stage of this vehicle is fully reusable, and it has been engineered from the outset to accommodate human spaceflight.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct structural analysis on primary and secondary tank structures utilizing traditional hand calculations and Finite Element Model (FEM) simulations to support design, manufacturing, and operational needs.
  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of structural analysis and load paths to achieve an optimized weight design.
  • Create precise and concise analysis documentation and perform peer reviews of analyses and reports generated by colleagues.
  • Provide structural analysis guidance to design engineers and junior analysts.
  • Support production issues, ongoing testing, and mission operations as we transition from initial design and qualification testing to production and operational phases.
Qualifications:

Minimum Requirements:

  • A passion for our mission of enabling millions to live and work in space.
  • B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering with 6+ years of structural analysis experience in aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicle structures, or automotive sectors.
  • Proven expertise in vehicle load path and stress analysis of metallic and/or composite structures.
  • Familiarity with classical aerospace sizing methodologies.
  • Knowledge of engineering materials and their applications for optimal structural design.
  • Experience with at least two analysis software packages.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages.
  • U.S. citizenship or lawful residency status is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with large-scale structural testing and instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in ANSYS Mechanical is highly desirable.
  • Understanding of linear-elastic fracture mechanics fundamentals.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB.
