EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The role of Executive Director at the Black Child Development Institute of Wisconsin presents a unique opportunity to significantly influence the lives of children and families in Southeast Wisconsin.
This is a full-time, salaried position responsible for crafting and implementing the strategic vision of the organization, managing all programs, partnerships, and policies. The Executive Director will also oversee daily operations, drive the mission and vision of the organization, provide leadership to staff, and report directly to the Board of Directors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leads strategic initiatives to further the mission of BCDI-Wisconsin.
- Formulates and executes strategic plans, policies, and programs to meet organizational objectives.
- Ensures financial health through effective budgeting, grant writing, fundraising, and grant oversight.
- Manages all facets of organizational operations, including financial oversight, fundraising, human resources, and program development.
- Oversees daily operations, ensuring adherence to state and federal regulations, as well as all relevant administrative guidelines.
- Builds and nurtures strong relationships with community partners, donors, and stakeholders.
- Guides and develops a committed team of staff, fostering professional growth and a positive workplace culture.
- Acts as the organization's representative in public forums, advocacy initiatives, and community collaborations to enhance awareness and support for BCDI-Wisconsin's mission.
- Champions the needs of children and families in the community, promoting understanding and support for all focus areas and the Eight Essential Outcomes.
Strategic Planning
Implements BCDI-Wisconsin's strategic plan in collaboration with the Board of Directors, executing annual program plans within allocated resources while maintaining regular communication with the Board.
Financial Oversight, Grants, and Fundraising
Manages the annual budget and adheres to board-established financial management protocols. Prepares monthly financial reports and cash flow forecasts, presenting these to the Board. Conducts financial audits and oversees grant submissions to community partners and foundations, while also developing an annual fundraising strategy.
Organizational Development
Keeps the Board informed about organizational progress and fundraising efforts through regular meetings and reports, while exploring opportunities for program expansion.
Community Engagement and Outreach
Monitors organizational performance and provides updates on metrics for external communication. Represents BCDI-Wisconsin on boards aligned with organizational goals and leads public relations and marketing initiatives in conjunction with the national organization. Engages with community resources and prepares presentations for networking and fundraising opportunities.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provides leadership and oversight of the BCDI office, staff, and volunteers. Administers personnel policies, oversees recruitment and training, and ensures a safe and engaging work environment that promotes employee development and retention.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Preferred Bachelor's degree in social work, education, child development, public health, or a related field. An Associate's degree with relevant experience may be considered. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role within a community organization is required.
- Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills, with excellent communication abilities.
- Proven experience in strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making in a dynamic setting.
- Familiarity with fundraising, financial management, budgeting, and grant writing.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and various social media platforms.
- Experience with database software and website content management is advantageous.
- Must possess a personal vehicle with valid insurance and be able to pass background checks.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in a professional office setting and involves interaction with the public in community environments. All employees must comply with vaccination requirements or secure medical or religious exemptions.
WORK SCHEDULE:
- Flexible office hours, Monday to Friday.
- Evenings and weekends may be required based on community engagement activities.

The Black Child Development Institute-Wisconsin (BCDI-Wisconsin) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Black children and families.
