EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The role of Executive Director at the Black Child Development Institute of Wisconsin presents a unique opportunity to significantly influence the lives of children and families in Southeast Wisconsin.
This is a full-time, salaried position responsible for crafting and implementing the organization's strategic vision, managing all programs, partnerships, and policies. The Executive Director will also oversee daily operations, advance the organization's mission and vision, provide leadership to staff, and report directly to the Board of Directors.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide strategic direction to promote the mission of BCDI-Wisconsin.
- Design and execute strategic initiatives, policies, and programs to meet organizational objectives.
- Ensure financial health through effective budgeting, grant writing, fundraising, and grant oversight.
- Manage all facets of organizational operations, including financial oversight, fundraising, human resources, and program development.
- Supervise daily operations, ensuring adherence to state and federal regulations and applicable administrative standards.
- Build and sustain strong relationships with community partners, donors, and stakeholders, including Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and BCDI national headquarters.
- Lead and mentor a committed team, fostering professional growth and a positive workplace culture.
- Represent the organization in public forums, advocacy initiatives, and community collaborations to enhance awareness and support for BCDI-Wisconsin's mission.
- Advocate for the needs of children and families in the community, raising awareness and support for all focus areas and our Eight Essential Outcomes.
Strategic Leadership
Oversee and implement BCDI-Wisconsin's strategic plan in collaboration with the Board of Directors. Execute annual program plans within allocated resources while maintaining regular communication with the Board.
Financial Oversight and Fundraising
Prepare and manage the annual budget, adhering to board-established financial protocols. Generate monthly financial reports and cash flow forecasts, presenting them to the Board. Conduct financial audits and annual reviews. Identify, prepare, submit, and manage grant applications to community partners, private foundations, and relevant state and federal programs. Collaborate closely with Children's Wisconsin and other partners on contract management. Develop and implement an annual fundraising strategy for BCDI-Wisconsin.
Organizational Growth
Keep the Board informed of organizational developments and fundraising progress through quarterly meetings. Provide updates on significant activities and any financial or resource challenges. Explore opportunities for program expansion.
Community Engagement
Monitor organizational progress and report on metrics for external communication. Represent BCDI-Wisconsin by participating in boards aligned with organizational goals. Lead public relations and marketing initiatives in coordination with the national organization, including fundraising, sponsorship, and partnership opportunities. Seek collaborations with other community resources. Prepare presentations for networking, grants, and fundraising initiatives. Adhere to all policies and procedures of BCDI-Wisconsin, working flexible hours with staff and volunteers to ensure success in all initiatives, including planning and assisting with special events.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Provide leadership and oversight of BCDI office, staff, and volunteers. Implement personnel policies, recruit, hire, and manage training for employees and volunteers. Ensure a safe work environment that emphasizes employee engagement, personal development, and career growth. Manage employee performance, recognize achievements, and foster a positive work atmosphere to retain staff, community partners, and volunteers.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in social work, education, child development, public health, or a related field is preferred. An associate's degree with relevant experience may be considered. A minimum of 5 years of experience leading a community organization is required.
- Strong leadership and organizational skills. Excellent communication abilities, including oral, written, interpersonal, and collaborative skills, are essential.
- Proven track record of strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making in a dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with fundraising, financial management, budgeting, and grant writing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and various social media platforms.
- Experience with database software and website content management is preferred.
- Must possess a personal vehicle with acceptable auto insurance and be able to pass required background checks.

WORK SCHEDULE:
- Flexible Office Hours: Monday to Friday.
- Evenings and Weekends may be required based on community engagement activities.

The Black Child Development Institute-Wisconsin (BCDI-Wisconsin) is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Black children and families. As the Wisconsin affiliate of the National Black Child Development Institute, we have a 50-year history of success.
