CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

The role of Chief Executive Officer at the Black Child Development Institute of Wisconsin presents a remarkable opportunity to significantly influence the lives of children and families in the Southeast Wisconsin region.

This is a full-time, salaried position responsible for formulating and implementing the organization's strategic vision, managing all programs, partnerships, and policies. The CEO will oversee daily operations, advance the organization's mission and vision, provide leadership to staff, and report directly to the Board of Directors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides visionary leadership to promote the mission of BCDI-Wisconsin.
  • Designs and executes strategic initiatives, policies, and programs to meet organizational objectives.
  • Ensures financial health through effective budgeting, grant writing, fundraising, and grant oversight.
  • Manages all facets of organizational operations, including financial oversight, fundraising, human resources, and program development.
  • Supervises daily operations, ensuring adherence to state and federal regulations, as well as relevant administrative guidelines.
  • Builds and nurtures strong relationships with community partners, donors, and stakeholders.
  • Guides and develops a committed team of staff, fostering professional growth and a positive workplace culture.
  • Acts as the organization's representative in public forums, advocacy initiatives, and community collaborations to enhance awareness and support for BCDI-Wisconsin's mission.
  • Champions the needs of children and families in the community, raising awareness and support for key focus areas and essential outcomes.

Strategic Leadership

Directs and implements BCDI-Wisconsin's strategic plan in collaboration with the Board of Directors. Effectively executes annual program plans within allocated resources and maintains ongoing communication with the Board as needed.

Financial Oversight and Fundraising

Develops and manages the annual budget, adhering to board-established financial protocols. Prepares monthly financial reports and cash flow forecasts, presenting them to the Board. Conducts financial audits and annual assessments. Identifies and manages grant applications to community partners and relevant funding sources, while collaborating closely with partners on contract management. Creates and implements an annual fundraising strategy for BCDI-Wisconsin.

Organizational Growth

Keeps the Board informed of organizational progress and fundraising efforts through regular updates. Provides insights on significant activities and any financial or resource challenges. Explores opportunities for program expansion.

Community Engagement

Monitors organizational progress and reports on metrics for external communication. Represents BCDI-Wisconsin on boards aligned with organizational goals. Leads public relations and marketing initiatives in accordance with national standards, including fundraising and partnership opportunities. Seeks collaborations with community resources and prepares presentations for networking and fundraising.

Leadership and Supervision

Provides guidance and oversight for the BCDI office, staff, and volunteers. Implements personnel policies, recruits, trains, and manages staff and volunteers. Ensures a safe and engaging work environment that promotes employee development and satisfaction.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, education, child development, public health, or a related field is preferred. An associate's degree with relevant experience may be acceptable. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership role within a community organization is required.
  • Strong leadership and organizational abilities. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.
  • Proven experience in strategic planning, problem-solving, and decision-making in a dynamic setting.
  • Familiarity with fundraising, financial management, budgeting, and grant writing.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and various social media platforms.
  • Experience with database software and website content management is a plus.
  • Must possess a personal vehicle with valid insurance and be able to pass background checks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in a professional office environment and involves interaction with the public in community settings. All employees must comply with health and safety protocols. Occasional travel may be required for community engagement.
