EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The role of Executive Director at the Black Child Development Institute of Wisconsin presents a unique opportunity to significantly influence the lives of children and families in Southeast Wisconsin.

This is a full-time, salaried position responsible for formulating and implementing the organization's strategic vision, managing all programs, partnerships, and policies. The Executive Director will also oversee daily operations, advance the organization's mission and vision, provide leadership to staff, and report directly to the Board of Directors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Offers strategic direction to further the mission of BCDI-Wisconsin.
  • Creates and executes strategic plans, policies, and initiatives to meet organizational objectives.
  • Ensures financial health through effective budgeting, grant writing, fundraising, and management of grants.
  • Manages all facets of organizational operations, including financial oversight, fundraising, human resources, and program development.
  • Supervises daily operations, ensuring adherence to state and federal regulations, along with relevant administrative guidelines.
  • Builds and nurtures strong relationships with community partners, donors, and stakeholders, including Children's Hospital of Wisconsin and the national headquarters.
  • Guides and develops a committed team of staff, fostering professional growth and a positive workplace culture.
  • Acts as the organization's representative in public forums, advocacy initiatives, and community collaborations to raise awareness and support for BCDI-Wisconsin's mission.
  • Champions the needs of children and families in the community, promoting awareness and support for all focus areas and our Eight Essential Outcomes.

Strategic Oversight

Leads the execution of BCDI-Wisconsin's short and long-term strategic objectives in collaboration with the Board of Directors. Effectively implements annual program plans within allocated resources while maintaining consistent communication with the Board.

Financial Oversight and Fundraising

Develops and manages the annual budget, adhering to established financial management protocols. Prepares monthly financial reports and cash flow forecasts using financial software for presentation to the Board. Conducts financial audits and annual reviews. Identifies, prepares, submits, and oversees grant applications to community partners, private foundations, and relevant state and federal programs. Collaborates closely with Children's Wisconsin and other partners on contract management. Formulates and executes an annual fundraising strategy for BCDI-Wisconsin.

Organizational Development

Keeps the Board informed about organizational progress and fundraising efforts through quarterly meetings. Provides updates on significant activities and any financial or resource-related concerns. Explores opportunities for program expansion.

Community Engagement

Monitors organizational progress and provides metrics for external reporting. Represents BCDI-Wisconsin on boards aligned with organizational goals. Leads public relations and marketing initiatives in coordination with the national organization, including fundraising, sponsorships, and partnerships. Seeks collaborations with other community resources. Prepares presentations for networking, grants, and fundraising opportunities. Adheres to all organizational policies and procedures, working flexible hours with staff and volunteers to ensure success in all initiatives, including planning and assisting with special events.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provides leadership and oversight of the BCDI office, staff, and volunteers. Implements personnel policies, recruits, hires, and oversees training for employees and volunteers. Ensures a safe work environment that emphasizes employee engagement, personal development, and career advancement. Manages employee performance, acknowledges achievements, and fosters a positive work atmosphere to retain staff, community partners, and volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, education, child development, public health, or a related field is preferred. An Associate's degree with relevant experience may be considered. A minimum of 5 years of experience in leading a community organization is required.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills. Excellent communication abilities, including oral, written, interpersonal, and collaborative skills, are essential.
  • Proven experience in strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making in a dynamic environment.
  • Familiarity with fundraising, financial management, budgeting, and grant writing.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, and various social media platforms.
  • Experience with various database software and website content management is preferred.
  • Must possess a personal vehicle with acceptable auto insurance and the ability to pass required background checks.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • Flexible Office Hours: Monday to Friday.
  • Evenings and Weekends may be required based on community engagement activities.
