Position Overview

The Patient Services Coordinator (PSC) is tasked with managing all facets of new patient scheduling in alignment with departmental protocols.

The PSC is dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service to patients, their families, healthcare providers, and staff consistently, adhering to the DFCI Customer Service Standards.

This role collaborates with a team of healthcare professionals, including physicians, physician assistants, program nurses, and nurse practitioners, playing a vital role in ensuring seamless patient care.

This position offers a hybrid work model, requiring three days per week onsite and two days per week remote. The initial training phase will be conducted entirely onsite for approximately 60 days.

Key Responsibilities

The PSC provides administrative support and coordination for all aspects of patient care for both new and established patients.

  • Schedules appointments in accordance with guidelines that ensure continuity of care and timely communication, including rescheduling as necessary.
  • Efficiently arranges resources to uphold the highest standards of patient experience, such as coordinating interpreter services.
  • Handles incoming calls for new and established patients, collecting detailed clinical information and resolving issues or escalating them as needed.
  • Recognizes emergencies and responds appropriately using established procedures and critical thinking skills.
  • Provides program-specific information to callers and directs calls as necessary.
  • Acts as a liaison for patients, ensuring efficient routing of calls based on telephone triage protocols.
  • Schedules patient visits and manages changes, accommodating both single and multiple care provider appointments.
  • Informs patients about the necessity of insurance referrals and directs calls as appropriate.
  • Assists in processing documentation related to clinical care, including insurance claims, disability forms, and medical equipment requests.

A Bachelor's Degree in health administration or a related field is strongly preferred, along with a minimum of one year of relevant healthcare and/or customer service experience.

  • Proficient phone etiquette.
  • PC proficiency is required.
