Position Overview: The Bassik Lab at Stanford University is on the lookout for a Life Science Research Professional 2 to play a vital role within a dynamic research team focused on pioneering genetic methodologies. This includes the development of intricate CRISPR/Cas9 libraries aimed at executing genetic screenings across various critical medical fields, including oncology, neurodegenerative disorders, and infectious diseases.

Research Objectives: The primary aims of this research are twofold: (1) to elucidate the mechanisms underlying cancer progression and to pinpoint innovative therapeutic targets, and (2) to investigate the role of macrophage cells in the immune response against a spectrum of threats, from protein aggregates to malignant cells.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct cell culture and maintain human cell lines.
  • Perform fundamental molecular biology techniques, including PCR, cloning, and gel electrophoresis.
  • Utilize flow cytometry and prepare samples for advanced sequencing.
  • Engage in confocal microscopy and execute basic statistical analyses.
  • Stay updated with scientific literature and contribute innovative ideas and methodologies to the lab.
  • Participate in lab meetings and journal clubs to foster collaborative learning.
  • Oversee supply and equipment budgets under the guidance of the principal investigator.
  • Supervise and mentor junior staff or students, providing technical support and project guidance.
  • Maintain laboratory inventory and safety records, and assist with procurement of lab equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Bioengineering, Genetics, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proficiency in essential molecular biology techniques.
  • Experience with high-throughput sequencing and sample preparation, fluorescence microscopy, and flow cytometry.
  • Master's degree in a relevant scientific discipline or equivalent experience is highly regarded.
  • Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles and methodologies.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to learn new software and databases rapidly.

Physical Requirements: The role may involve standing, walking, and performing tasks that require physical dexterity, including lifting and carrying objects over 40 pounds. Candidates should be prepared to work in environments where hazardous materials may be present and adhere to safety protocols.
